Verizon iPhone? Would you switch?

So there's yet another rumor of a Verizon iPhone. Maybe early 2011. Was in the WSJ. Forget about if it's a rumor or fact. We'll find that out soon enough. But if an iPhone does come to Verizon, would you leave Android for it?

This is not a flame question by the way. Just curious what people are thinking.

The iPhone 4 has a great hardware design, but iOS is for kids, IMO. Until iOS adds, among other things, widgets, more customization, ability to install third party apps, and better notifications, I wouldn't switch. Even then I can't say I would, but at least it'd open the discussion.

The iPhone coming to Verizon is the worst possible thing for us Android users who have no intention of switching. The millions of AT&T customers who hate their miserable service will come with it, and it's going to have an adverse effect on the network I think.

i personally love apple computers and use them all the time so i am not opposed to their products i might pick one up to play with but i could never switch to it. hardware is good software needs work.

I would not. I have an iPod Touch, and have used one for quite a while. Once I got my Droid Incredible I have barely used my iPod. IMHO Android is better than iOS because of the customizability, among other things. So no, I would not leave Android for the iPhone.

Same here. I would be more likely to switch to AT&T if they had the Incredible.

Tempting. Apple makes great products, and while simple, what it does it does really well.

2) Google Maps/Navigation. Blows iphone out of water, and it's free. Nothing iphone offers comes close without paying premium. This app is so underrated it's ridiculous.

You're missing out. I used to own an iTouch and it was a very, very good quality piece of hardware I thought.

Agree. I need Google to get their act together wrt Chrome OS and a tablet compatible OS (Gingerbread?). Looking for cross functionality and Apple seems to be light years ahead right now. Love to see the MIUI ROM on a tablet!

Nahh. Android's marketshare is close to 20%, flirting with probably around 18% right now, where Apple's is closer to 23%. With Android being out for only 17 months, I put my money on Android. Verizon's iPhone may help boost Apple's #s a little, but with the massive Android manufacturing army, it's gonna be a close race.

Developers are finally getting on the ball and pushing out apps and games for the Android left and right (i.e. Angry Birds and Ninja Fruit on Android were huge moves).

My phone can do so much more than an iPhone can with the latest apps I got on my phone; it's ridiculous.

I used an iPhone 2G (bought it off friends when they got 3GSs), and the OS is just awful compared to Android. One thing I hated was how it did notifications. The only way I knew when something happened was a badge on the app icon. Nothing else.

What I love the most about Android, as a developer, is that push notifications can do anything in an application. With iOS, they can only put up a message and put a badge on an app icon. It's extremely limited.

My wife has the iphone 4 and I have used it extensively and there is just no way I would switch. (The antennae flaw was way over hyped by the way) I do think that the build quality is a bit more sturdy on the iphone but that is really the only thing it has going for it. My DI is just as fast if not faster at most tasks and is infinitely more customizable. The internet experience is much better on my DI even when both phones are using our wifi. One thing that was really obvious is there were quite a few apps for the iphone that are just plain better than their counterparts on Android. I think Apple with their lust for control over everything guarantees a better app experience overall but that same clench fisted control is what will hold them back and allow Android to surpass them if they don't change. Anyway when my wife and I traded phones for a few days she was sorry that she didn't switch over to VZ when her contract was up and I was even happier that I didn't go to ATT to get the iphone.

Disagree. It's all about how you use your machine. I've got Win 7 at home and I've been running it since it came out a year or so ago. The only time it crashed on me was when I had a bad hard drive. If your hardware is faulty, you're going to get crashes no matter what OS you're running. But I'm also not the type who lets every piece of crap software that wants to install itself on my computer install itself.

OS X gains stability primarily by only running on specific hardware. If Windows only supported a very limited hardware configuration, it would no doubt be much more stable. All it takes is one buggy piece of hardware or one buggy driver to crash a Windows computer.

Indeed. I was going to go into this in my post, but figured most people wouldn't understand. Then I realized what type of forum I'm on.

The problem is, the quality of the hardware from almost all Windows PC manufacturers has become abysmal. I've gone through several of the top names, and they've all let me down, some in very serious situations. Next time I need a Windows computer, I'm going to go with Asus, as it's the only brand I trust, but in general, there is no denying Windows has more stability issues than Mac OS. While far from an expert, I have a very technical background as a former software developer, and I still couldn't handle all the issues Windows threw at me. I have heard Windows 7 is a huge improvement over the last few versions, so eventually I'll give it a shot.

The same problem(s) could plague Android, but thus far I've found the hardware for most Android phones to be superb.

All that said, I do find Mac OS overly restrictive in what I can customize, but the stability, ease of use, and quality of the hardware (unibody aluminum Macbook) are excellent. Sounds very similar to the iPhone...

Now I will stop going off on a tangent.
