My current plan was to wait and see what HTC puts out in Q1 of 2011 as I love the HTC phones and their Sense UI.

That is still my plan overall but I just came across the Notion Ink Adam tablet and I have to say it sounds pretty impressive in what info I could find. I was not able to find a full spec sheet on it but the hints sound pretty good. Multi-touch capacitive touch screen, Wi-Fi, a full GPS, cool camera and hints of lots of new stuff. Not sure about the resolution of the screen.

I now have two products I am very interested in. This Adam and the never mention often rumored HTC tablet.

2 things about the adam. has anyone found out exactly which cpu and how much ram is in the device? Pkus I believe they are about to issue a "well were going to delay a little bit"
I was actually in negotiation with the manufacturing entity to bring a few in unbranded, and as soon as I started pushing for RAM and an exact ship date all communication just suddenly dried up 2 days ago.

Information is a little scarce on the Adam but I found these pages that give some tidbits:

On a Tablet wish list thread - I had posted this earlier:
10 inch capacitive touch screen
at least 780p but full hd would be awesome
1Ghz processor or better
3G capable
wi-fi
GPS (not assisted)
hdmi and usb ports
ability to have 64 gig of memory (combined internal/external)
Webcam (a plus but could be nice)
Great battery life (ok - decent would be good too)
Android 2.2
Check check check check check check check check check check check

I had since added that I wanted full Market support. This does not yet have it, but it sounds like they expect it after Gingerbread is out.

I had also at one point said wouldn't it be cool if you could have a tablet that was as colorful as a iPad and as easy to read on as an eInk tablet like the Kindle. This seems to have it.

The more I read of this Adam tablet, the more I like it.

They took a lot of flack because of the delays they had, but the delays caused/allowed to step back and add features to this tablet that they intended for a version 2 tablet.

This is the first tablet that has really wowed me with the specs. I just hope it finally arrives between the December to late January time frame that is currently expected.

I've been obsessing over the adam since first reading about it. A full color reflective lcd that looks as good as e-ink with battery life increasing to over 100 hrs in this mode because the lcd lighting is what uses the most battery. Dual-core 1ghz tegra 2! Full 1080 hdmi out, swiveling camera, sd and sim card slots, stereo speakers and built in mic. They skipped no detail!

I've been following their blog at Notion Ink.
"Crossing the biggest milestone on 6th October" it says, I think this thing is going to be officially announced tomorrow!...or today, it just turned midnight.

Just have a look here on their unofficial website about the Adam: Notion Ink - Adam

This slate has everything a user can only want to have:
- Tegra2 with 1GHz Cortex A9
- 16 or 32GB memory
- Wifi b/g/n
- Bluetooth 2.1 (I know, the Galaxy Tab has 3.0)
- 3g/HSPA optional
- optional 10.1" Pixel Qi display, transflexive, fully working in bright sunlight, matte surface, 4-finger multitouch
- 2 USB2 ports (master for USB devices like mouse, keyboard, hard disks) plus 1 mini USB (slave for connection to PC)
- 1080p HDMI out
- Micro SDHC slot
- SIM slot (depends on version)
- 3.2MP camera, 185

...snip
- (assisted) A-GPS

Bjoern

The final specs have changed in a few areas, I have heard, since these specs were published for the 2010 CES. I don't know most of the changes but I do know that it no longer has A-GPS (assisted) but a full GPS - even better.

The camera has changed a bit too - its location changed and they increased its rotation to 185 degrees to allow for optimal viewing.

They also changed the battery from the beginning although I do not know what it really was. It is now replaceable and lasts longer.

My understanding is they have tweaked other things too to make it better.

I am really looking forward to this one coming out, although I can't buy it right away. I have to wait until February, which in a way is good as it will have some market exposure ahead of time.

Vaporware.

Archos tablets are real.

I totally understand why you feel that way. They dropped the ball when they announced last January they would be out in May and never showed up.

But if you have followed them at all since then, you would understand why they got delayed as well as have seen the tremendous progress they have made since then, as well as how close they really are. The product is finalized and is at FCC for approval. Assuming normal FCC approval time frame they feel it will release in December in time for Christmas.

I really think this will happen shortly. Obviously I do not know but I have been following their blog as well as news reports daily and things really do look good.

well, _I_ don't have my Archos 101 yet, so it must be vaporware!

j/k, I know what you mean, but would it simply have been better for Notion Ink to have not announced anything, and then shown up on the market with some unknown product?

I think the way they have done it is fine. While I have an Archos 101 on order, I think eventually (mid next year?) I will get an Adam.

[*]This is already a little out of date. for example, the spec talks about it having A-GPS, assisted, but it has been confirmed that they now have a full GPS

In this day and age, it's a crime that one or the other would be the only solution.

Gps only IMHO is unsat. You need both Gps and a-gps. For example in Germany this week with my evo, I was navigating using gps only. In areas with poor reception, like around lot of tall buildings, gps only can be quite unreliable. My position indicator kept jumping all over the place. A-gps only also obviously has it's shortfalls; no network = no location service. But with both you get the best of worlds.

My iPad uses skyhook, which works well enough in a city, but it would be nie if it were augmented by a gps receiver.

By the time the Adam shows up, there should be plenty of devices to choose from. Best case for mass release of Adam is early 2011, with some chance of a soft low volume launch in very late December.

We will probably need to wait for 2.3 before Tegra 2 issues are all fixed. That and some apps will need to be made just for the Tegra 2. Quite a few, actually...

Dual core is a blessing AND a curse ;)

if this is announced within my 30 day return window i may return my g tablet to sears and get this, after i see if the software lives up to the hardware of course. from the looks of the videos and website they seem like the type of company that are paying special attention to the software and will hopefully be good with updates. i'm gonna keep an eye on it, that pixel qi technology looks nice too. it looks like something will be announced on December 9th http://androidcommunity.com/notion-...december-9th-its-meaning-is-unknown-20101125/ theres a countdown happening in the upper right hand corner of their homepage on their website. getting pumped about this now, this tablet looks sick.
