iPhone-like Dock Bar for Nexus One - Is It Out There?

Ok, so, lots of poeple have agreed that the iPhone dock bar is preferable to the Android OS lack of one. I tend to agree. I want a few things ALWAYS at my fingertips no matter what screen i'm on.

Especially with the lack of the Hard Send/End Keys that the HTC Droid Eris has (i'll miss those), this makes the need even greater.

These things i would like are:

Phone
Mail
SMS
Browser

Everthing else i dont mind flipping to for use. And the Home screen is a great spot for the second tier of things like

Clock
Weather
Upcoming Appts
Etc

The other screens then become the places for whatever else your heart desires, and that's the greatest thing of all about Android.

However, i REALLY beleive that there should at LEAST be an option (built-in or otherwise) for users to have a constant, customizable dock of icons at the bottom of EVERY screen for easy access...

So, is there a theme out there that has this? I dont care if it's the iPhone theme for Android, i just think it's necessary, again, especially due to the lack of hard send/end keys.

Thoughts?

I have an Eris, and Verizon doesnt have iPhone, nor would i want one.

That's 2 useless answers you've given in a matter of 3 minutes (one to my other post asking where to go to play with a Nexus One - to which you replied "buy one on the internet")

This is supposedly the most customizeable, tweakable, Open based phone on the market...

Surely i can't be the only one with this request...

So, again, if you don't know, that's OK...just don't be a clown.

Thanks for anyone with any useful insight.

;)

PS - the only reason i mentioned "iPhone-LIKE" is so that people would understand right off the bat what i was looking for...

useless answers to useless questions.... think before you post and maybe you'll get better results...

your question is a WISH list... you come off as quite demanding and a person that will never be happy no matter what's available... do some research on various themes... if there's none you like or do what you want, write your own theme...

your attitude is exactly what i expect a vzw fanboi to be like...

I'm sorry if the articulation of my requests is offensive to you. It's not a demand, it's a request.

So, if there's something out there, and you know if it, show me the way. Isn't that what these forums are all about? Helping people?

Seriously, get off your elitist high-horse and help someone out for a change? Unlike some, i do my research, and have looked through tons of themes, but there are tons more out there....

By posting, I'm sharing my request with others, and, if something like this really doesnt exist, maybe someone out there, with more time and skills than I, will develop one....and then everyone who has the same needs as I can get more out of their phones...

I really hope every one of those 380 posts you got arent as arrogant and negative as your last 3...

don't worry though... no more comments out of me... you're now on my ignore list...

ty.

there might be an alternate home that works like that or maybe a rooted ROM, but as for stock android, it's a no-go, each page is different, there is no static dock between them, though i have seen what you are looking for on youtube, just can't remember if it's homereplacement, or ROM, if i find the video ill post it for ya

Thank you for your help CD, if you come across anything, please let us know. I'm sure this won't be the first time this is asked.

you could put the same 4 apps on the bottom of each page...

And here i thought i wasnt going to hear from you again....

I'm pretty Gde has this function, not positive though

Yeah, actually it has something similar, where it has the phone and settings icon overlayed on every screen, plus some other cool features

YouTube Video comparing 2.0, Panda and GDE

Neat.

Home++ also seems to have something similar, but i cant tell from screenshots whether or not it's a constant dock type bar..

Onward.

Sorry that you have not had much help from certain quarters - this forum is normally friendly and helpful.

Best advice I can offer is to try out some of the home replacement apps - HOME ++ is one that springs to mind that may give you this functionality.

Hey it's cool, i've had a pretty good experience so far, there's always one in the crowd.

Thanks for the advice. I've looked at a few in threads where people show their themes off, but i cant find a good place to view them and their features. Androlib i find is hard to navigate and it's hard to tell which themes are compatibile w/ which phones...

Is there something better than Androlib for checking out themes?

home++ allows this function and the bar is totally modifiable. same w sweeter home...a simple search of "android custom home replacements" on this forum or on Google would turn up any number of results. ;)

Thanks for the tip, i'll check it out...

somtimes it's knowing what to search for that's half the battle..that oughtta get me started :D

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you're looking for, but why don't you just add those 4 icons to every homepage and put them at the bottom of the screen the same way it would be on the iphone "dock". Just add the Phone, Mail, Sms, and Browser icons to every home screen, that way they'll always be "at your fingertips"

I find reading the manual (a tad radical I acknowledge..)
Nexus One Help
- all 330 pages (surprising how many are blank...) & browsing boards

- helps my aged and small brain understand, albeit I still ask dumb questions...and sometimes really dumb ones..

I guess that, in OP's terms, may be a useless answer & I'm a clown??.. Well, great, suits me..live and let live say I, have a nice one!

Cheers!

Well as long as we're bumping ancient threads with some new info, just root your phone and get MIUI ROM. It's an awesome chinese-based ROM (translated by now) and the launcher just kicks so much ass! dedicated dock where you can drag and drop up to 5 icons. Adding widgets is easier then ever. Re-arrange your homescreens by drag and drop and select primary homescreen with a single tap... They even got the FM radio to work, aswel as 720p recording! Whatever I can't name it all, I'll just get you a vid.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Or-9T44Bt7M&NR=1

It's been translated to English by now tho. I know this isn't BRAND NEW info but I'm hoping to get it out there to people who never know it existed.

The iOS4 can only dream to be as customizable and awesome as MIUI :D
