Help Trade up from the hero?

I got my Sprint email last night that I can have this phone early. Got the GF a Hero three weeks ago. Pretty sure I am going to trade it in on this.

I only wish I wasn't so close to my 30 days...hate being a total guinea pig.

I think you'll be okay with this one. Samsung has already released updates for the Epic (2 of them...and it's only 5 weeks old), so I think they are trying to be more proactive about resolving issues with their phones.

We will likely be getting this phone for our teenager. I think this phone will be a really nice alternative to the Epic. I just wish it was about $50 cheaper, as the Epic is now down to $150 at Amazon. Hopefully it drops in price by the time we're ready to make the switch to Sprint in a month!

One of my lines is ready for an upgrade also and I am considering this phone. But i wouldnt buy directly through sprint. I want to see what Radio Shack sells is for on the 10th. They sell the intercept for like 30 on an upgrade with no BS rebates.

But i am very conflicted about buying a mid level samsung phone after seeing how many problems people have had from the Instinct, Moment, Intercept.

I just need a solid reliable phone to replace my GF's piece of crap Palm Pre she has been fighting with for a year now. She doesnt really use many smart phone features. But i need to get her a phone that the battery wont die after 4 hours of standby use.

Honestly I dont see anything about this phone that makes it an upgrade over either the moment or intercept. In fact its inferior to the moment in Screen tech and resolution. But it seems to be better than the blurry screen on the intercept.

Sprint really should have made this a galaxy S bar phone for the 149.99. Without the stupid 4g surcharge.

It's Rev A, better than the intercept. How is it behind the moment in screen? Both are listed as the same resolution.

Moment has Amoled screen this has the standard LCD.
Its a matter of personal preferences in some ways. But when i mention screen Tech I am referring to the tech behind the screen. So yes Amoled is tech superior to Lcd.

Now I have an EVO and love it on my line. And I am considering this for my 2nd line. So its not a rip on this phone. But the reality is this device is in many ways last generation technology. And Samsung failed in some pretty serious ways with their efforts on last gen tech. Just look at the Moment and Intercept message boards and you will see what I mean. HTC on the other hand is a better track record with last gen devises. Most Hero owners are pleased with the phone. I was. Most touch pro 2 owners seem to be pleased. Find me 1 single Samsung phone that is last generation technology (resolution,less than 1gz processor, less than 5mp camera, ect) that is pleased with the phone and are able to live with it happily for 2 years.........Even the Galaxy S line is having some issues (data speeds,GPS, ect). But these at least have work arounds to an extent. But Moment owners had to pull their batteries several times a day. They dealt with lockups with this exact same processor that is being put into this Transform. So anyone who moves on this phone needs to be very cautious and realize that you may be taking it back within the 30 days. Otherwise based on Samsung I would wait on the sidelines until.

Unfortunately for me the Pre is so terrible that the battery cant last 5 hours on standby and my GF is fed up with it. So she just wants rid of that phone at all cost. She would be ok with switching to iPhones but I dont want to give up my EVO for an iphone.

should be better then the hero. its a keyboard slider phone but its going to heavier and thicker then the slate like hero. overall i think the transform is going to be a good mid range android phone. the new epic doesn't have the data lock up issue and the gps issue is being fixed. i think its safe to pick up the samsung. i might be getting one in nov. sprint says they will upgrade to 2.2 by the end of the year but they said that with the moment and it took them almost a year to upgrade to 2.1 only abandon it within a year. it be a risk but i think its worth it, if it does have issues it won't be as bad as the moments.

By the way, while the Transform is 800 MHz, it's not supposed to be the same processor as the Moment. My understanding is that it is an underclocked Hummingbird processor (so, same processor as the Epic, but slower). This will certainly make a difference in performance. I don't think it's a bad thing that the phone has an LCD screen. That's typical for a mid-range phone really. I am a little disappointed in the price of the phone though. It should not be more than $99 with a new contract really.

It also has a flash for the camera, which the Intercept does not. In small ways, this is definitely a step up from the Intercept. It's really more of an updated Moment with a slightly lesser screen.

Where did you see this information on the CPU? The video reviews all show a bit of lag on it...about the same as the moment and WAY more than the Epic would do on its worst day.

I have also been thinking of exchanging my Hero for this, I was a little disappointed in the specs but I'll take a look at it when its out. Also, hopefully Amazon will have this much cheaper than Sprint. Especially with the EPIC being the same price (150)

edit: also, I don't trust samsung so we will have to see how big the rooting community will be for this phone.

Go to the intercept message board and tell them the same thing. The Epic is their galaxy s phone for Sprint. It is their baby. They sold 5 million galaxy s phones so we know they will support that line. But the other phones are the red headed step children of samsung.

You would have though they would have figured out the moment issue's at this point. Or you would have figured they would have given the intercept a normal resolution screen or a respectable 3g radio. But they didnt. So you are taking a change with a company that has a terrible reputation so far.

yeah, because the Hero and Eris have such great continued support from HTC. Any of the reps in my company that are still using the old 1.5 devices are still on the Moment. I've gotten every Hero back, and each one is using webOS since there weren't any better options at the time.

All those old 1.5 devices are dead as a doornail. HTC has moved on to the Incredible, Evo and Aria. Samsung moved forward to Galaxy. I chalk the Intercept up to dumb marketing decisions, and that'll soon go by the way side. And don't think Sprint didn't have a hand in what the Intercept was. That phone was literally the ugly duckling. It's not like it was a model that spanned carriers which the Transform very well could as a midgrade phone. Samsung also did a smart thing as I believe the Transform is pretty much stock Android, absent of Wiz which is a plus for many, especially the modding crowd.

And terrible rep off of what? Their great history of smartphones with PalmOS and WinMob? Their good track record of dumbphones? Or do you want to talk about the Instinct which is mostly Sprint's fault for trying to tout it as an iphone killer and raising customers' expectations beyond belief that any company would've looked horrible with that kind of expectation put on that kind of phone? Anyone that says they have a horrible rep has a relatively short span of recollection as their previous ventures in smartphones have been mostly excellent.

If youre correct that its an underclocked hummingbird, root it (works the same as the epic) and overclock it to 1ghz.

its not a hummingbird. sprint already released the specs including the processor chipset. it is the same as the moment and intercept.

Im not sure why every mid level android phone put out by sprint (besides the Evo and Epic because im not paying $10 extra a month when theres hardly any 4g service available) has nothing special to offer over the Moment which was put out a very long time ago. I have a Moment and I am trying to find an android phone to upgrade to (like I said besides the Evo and Epic) but nothing is really an upgrade to what I have. The Moment is not getting anymore upgrades and the software glitches are a killer. But when the phone is working properly, it's an awesome phone.

The Intercept was a huge disappointment with its crappy screen and slow internet. No way Id give up my Moment for this phone. But now you have the newly released Transform. I dont understand why besides a front facing camera, theres absolutly no upgrades to it. The Moments screen resolution is exactly the same and the internet speed is the same. I understand that a 2.2 update is coming in the near future, but at this day in age, why is this thing shipped with 2.1?
