Best Verizon Device - 3 Questions

I'm about ready to leave AT&T and my 2 year old Blackberry Bold. I've decided to go with Verizon, but I'm not sure if I should wait for newer devices to emerge. The Droid Incredible seems to be the best, but I'm concerned that it's already 6 months old. So, I have 3 questions:

1) Is there any device on Verizon now that's better than the Droid Incredible?

2) Will there be any device rumored for release on Verizon that will be better than the DI?

3) I'm thinking of buying it through Amazon, since it's going for $49.99. Any issues or complications getting it through them? i.e. Warranty claim issues, returns, etc?

Here are my conditions:

a) I don't like slide-out keyboards.

b) I don't trust Motorola devices. I've never been impressed with thier quality.

The DI seems to be the best right now, but my concern is that it's been out for a while. I don't want to get roped into a 2 year contract and have the Droid Incredible 2 (or similar HTC device) come out right after I sign.

New Android phones are coming out about one a month and look to continue that pace. The newer phones will soon be incorporating LTE into the mix which is where the tiered data plans are supposed to be coming in. So I would go ahead and get an incredible now if that is what you like. You can't answer the question of which device is "Best". Everyone will have a different answer, according to their own personal preferences.

Thanks Wintersg3. Yes, you're right. It does come down to personal preference. I suppose my question should have been: What's better, the DI or the Samsung Facinate (or whatever the Galaxy S phone on Verizon is called). I'm pretty sure I know the answer to that, but I wanted to get some opinions anyway.

Also I was hoping others would know of upcoming devices similar to the DI and Samsung. And I'm curious if anyone has had experience ordering through Amazon.

If you're just looking at those two, then the Inc is definitely superior. And, if you wait for "upcoming" devices that might be better, you'll never get anything. Nothing I've seen rumored for Verizon seems any better than the ones they already offer. I prefer the X, but I had an Inc until recently, and it's a good piece of equipment. Call quality wasn't as good as the X, and the size was just too small for me, and the battery life flat out stunk, but overall, I really loved that phone. If it could have mowed my lawn, I would've married it.

Actually, I've heard that the new Incredibles will be shipped with SLCD screens, as opposed to the original AMOLED's (LINK). This should cut down on the battery drain.

As for the screen size, I think the only advantage the Samsung had was the 4" screen. The DX screen size is nice, but I don't think it would add much functionality.

I haven't heard any confirmation on this. However, the SLD screen can't improve the call quality. Just based on the things I've read about the Fascinate and the Inc - and a relatively short time of playing with the Fascinate in the store versus owning an incredible for 5 months - the Inc just seems more solid than the Fascinate. The X is slightly better in some respects than the Inc (IMO) as far as quality, and in some respects, not as good. But that's where preferences come in. When I got the X recently, the Fascinate was an option as well. In fact, the rep at the Verizon store tried to steer me towards it. The specs on the Fascinate don't measure up to the X where it matters to me, and the reviews I've read/heard haven't given me any reason to think the Fascinate is a better piece of equipment.

I chose the Fascinate over the others based on its screen readability outdoors. It wins hands down. Admittedly, I am having to tweak it some to get it like I want it--getting rid of Bing annoyance mostly--but not really much trouble thanks to the wonderful folks on these forums. If you want like it is out of the box and b-i-g, go with the DX. But don't plan on any custom Roms for it any time soon. If you like to play with the look and feel of the phone and want to get rid of the VZW crapware and really customize the phone, the Fascinate is the better choice followed closely by the Inc IMO. That Fascinate screen really POPS! Tho it's overkill for others. I'm just so glad we have all these choices from Big Red. Two years ago there really wasn't much to choose from VZW:p.

OK, so I just realized that the $50 Incredible on Amazon ships within 1-2 months. That won't cut it. That is not incredible. So I'm back to square one.

Now I'm considering the Fascinate, which goes for the same price and ships within 24 hours. I like the screen size a lot, however I'm troubled by the tech blog reviews. Mainly, they (i.e. Engadget) complain about the bloatware, Bing and the Samsung user interface.

My question is, how much of an improvement would there be if I rooted the device? Would it put the stock Android 2.1 OS on, and then 2.2 whenever that's released? Or would it still have the Samsung UI without all of the bloatware?

Ultimately, would a rooted Fascinate beat out the Incredible? (In your opinion, of course.)

Currently I believe the way the Fascinate all ready beats the Incredible. You don't have to use BING you just can remove it.
