Help Another "Starting download" market error...

Hi, I have had one of those "Starting download" errors in the market for almost 3 months now (!) and I'm starting to get tired of it.

I'm using a Desire with android 2.2. My problem is this: I can download from satellite network, but not via Wifi at home. However, it seems to be a 1% chance (or close to that) of successful download using the Wifi.

I have logged in and out of Talk several times, did a couple of factory resets, formatted the SD card, cleared cache from HTC checkin service, market, google talk and downloader (if thats what its called in english). I tried to set the network as only WCDMA, only GSM and both auto, still no results. Everything else seems to work using the Wifi at home, except market. I called HTC for some help, and the only thing I got to know was that it wasn't my mobile operator, or other settings on my phone that caused this problem, and they also thougt it might be the network at home, which I too thought before talking to them. So I did a little research about that, and tried to open port 5228, even though that seemed weird, as it sometimes worked downloading. I also read about the change from googlemail.com to gmail.com, but I never had a "googlemail.com" address, so I hope this isnt the problem. Now HTC wants me to tell them if I can fix this, and how I did, so they probably have no clue either:S

I have also tried other things, which I don't remember right now, but if anyone can list up something to try, I'll see if I have done it or not. Thanks :)

I have also tried other wifi networks, and I have no problem downloading from them. But I changed network this spring, so now I have a wireless broadband. Does anybody know if this is the problem, and what I can do to fix it? It has worked downloading after I got this network, but its also possible that this problem started after I upgraded it to Froyo...

Not sure if this is going to help anyone, but just sharing my experience.

Both me, and my collegue could not download from the market.

We realised we'd both used the work 'guest wifi'. It's an open network but one which directs you to a page where you enter a username and password.

To fix the problem, I cleared the cache from the Market in 'Manage applications', and rebooted. The first time it did not fix problm. The second time I tried, I remved the battery and SD card, then reinserted and rebooted.

This fixed the problem for me. Not sure yet if it worked for my collegue.

So it seems the problem is directly related to your wifi then? it works on others.

The Desire only supports modems set to b/g (IEEE 802.11 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia). Your home connection may be n (IEEE 802.11 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia).

If this is the case, you may be able to change your wifi router to b/g mode. Do you know which your router supports? What router model/version number do you have?

Hmm, it was set to b, g and n mixed, tried to set it to only b and g mixed but nothing happened. The router is a D-link DIR-635

Hi
I have tried this a few times before, so I'm afraid it didn't work :)
Anyway, thanks for your reply

Hi,

My issue seems to resolved, i know many of you have done factory settings as well.
few days back i had noticed UI of android market was changed, so i went into settings->manage application->market uninstalled the updates. after that i was able to download the applications

Thanks for your reply, will check it out later when I get home on my wifi, and report back if it worked.
