Well the new XtrRom 4.6 beta has been released. I talked to Zach and he said it has been running on his phone for a week with no issues. I couldn't find the zip on the first page but here is the link to the zip.

Beta is finally up!

No optimize png as it was causing problems with some apps and I have since found evidance that NOT reducing size can be faster...

Well 4.6 is out of beta as of today.

To be honest, the 4.5 beta had some issues just because he used a different kernal and it didn't work on all phones. I can say that this rom will be almost perfect even for a beta. Zach has a way of building a great rom.:D

I agree, but I have a personal policy of not flashing a ROM until it has been out for a full day, in order to read about any issues that may be reported on the thread on xda-developers, and, since Zach said that he expected to have it declared out of beta perhaps by the end of the weekend, I'll wait. This has more to do with the Froyo ROMs than the Eclair ROMs, but, since it takes me about an hour to get a new ROM loaded the way that I want, I prefer to wait to see if the developer puts out a fixed edition soon after.

I can wait; my phone is running fine the way it is now.

I've got a question, why do people prefer xtrrom as opposed to to xtrsense? In all honesty ive tried running xtrrom and it never does it for me... I much prefer sense as to non-sense (senseless)

Well, because I do not like the Sense launcher at all. I greatly prefer Launcher Pro. If I am not going to use the Sense launcher, there really is no reason to run a ROM that includes it.

Now I think that is why Zach has created both roms. I dont like all the extra stuff that sense has shoved into the rom. I didn't use much of it. The photo album, the favorites people call screen, all the bookmarks, the message screen. For me too much waste, now for you it may be the perfect rom for you, we each get to make the best choice for ourselves. Now if I wanted a sense based rom I should have stayed with the stock rom.

I really like the ADW launcher, I tried the launcher pro on froyo and had issues. I guess I don't use it cause I just think it will do it again so I stick with ADW. I may just have to try the launcher pro again.

I've been running xtrROM 4.6 since yesterday. It's really a great ROM (and I do prefer vanilla, so that's saying something). However, even with the battery script running it seems to be burning battery faster than CELB, Kaos and Nonsensikal do for me, and I hate the blinking LED (as opposed to trackball) notifications - mostly because the phone stops flashing after a while. Who the heck at HTC thought that this was a good idea???

And, of course, the pixelated caller ID photos when calls arrive are strange, and I greatly prefer the Nexus One lockscreen (though this new one is better.)

I only use the nexus lockscreen, I haven't had any problems with battery life. I normally only get 20 hrs of my phone so this is not a problem. I just think my phone is weird, I tried all the tricks to improve battery life and make my phone fast. I followed all the advice given in all the threads and no improvement. Make your phone fly, well let me tell you what I have found, froyo doesn't make your phone any faster. I tested for a week and it was not any faster then XtrRom 3.03. I will always prefer a rom that doesn't have an update every other day.

Trying to use GScript and receive this error when I press load:

GScript:

Error when looking for scripts in /sd/gscript/

java.lang.NullPointerException

Any ideas?

**I am doing this on an Eris (my wife's) just wanted to clarify as my device says droid :)**

**Nevermind, dumb rookie mistake. I still had the sd card mounted.**
:DWe have all been there. What am I saying, Im still there.

I've been using this ROM since yesterday, and... WOW! I got used to somewhat buggy, sometimes laggy froyo ROMs (though I take nothing away from those developers, as they've all done amazing things). I admit, I got caught up for a while in the froyo hype- bouncing between Kaos, Tazz, Nonsensikal and most recently CELB, but after trying this ROM my phone is faster than it's ever been! I haven't even changed any of the default settings, don't have setcpu or autokiller installed, and it's just so dang smooth. I may still try out the 2.2 roms that are coming out (still haven't tried the one that isn't hosted on XDA, shadowrom, i believe?), but I can't really imagine being happier with those than xtr. Benchmark scores be damned, Zach's ROMs are the real deal! Mis dos centavos :D

Glad you like the rom, 2.2 is nice and they have done so much making a rom not made for the eris work on the eris. With that being said, thats why zachs roms are so good for my phone it is 2.1 made for 2.1 phones. Try this and see if it works for you, go to settings, sound and display. Turn off the animations, then if you use ADWlauncher go to screen preferances, go to desktop scrolling speed and put it at 0, then do the same to desktop overshoot 0. See if you notice any improvement.

This may be a foolish question(s) but I've only run sense ROM's on my phone (stock and xtrSENSE) so be nice :) With LP is there a way to change the dock shortcuts on the home screen? For example, I'd like the 4 icons to be handcent, market, browser and mail..would this be possible? Also, with xtrROM are there still FaceBook, Twitter and Music widgets? I know on xtrSENSE the FB and T widget is under "Android Widgets" and not "HTC Widgets" so I'm assuming they'd still be available in xtrROM? What about the music widget? I love xtrSENSE but realized a few days ago that I don't use any of the sense widgets like mail, messages or favorite people so why not try xtrROM and see if I like it as much as xtrSENSE. Plus, I heard it's much faster than xtrSENSE so I'm pretty excited to see how it runs. As always, thanks in advance

On the first question, have you ever swiped your thumb left or right on the home icons? They move to new spaces to fill. Or I think if you press and hold then you can choose to change the icon or the function. I only run ADW so Im a little fuzzy on the launcher pro. On question 2, you can download the twitter and facebook apps from the market, so you can still use them, and there still is a music widget. You still get all the good stuff without all the fluff. Give XtrRom 4.6 a try.:D

Absolutely! Just long press on the icon and you can change it. You can change it to an app shortcut, or a number of other items - direct dial a contact; gmail label, and a number of other things. You can define multiple docks that you can get to by swiping the dock left and right, if you wish.

I have not use ADW as much, but it has close to the same power, though you change the shortcuts by dragging an item from a home screen or the app drawer to the dock position to replace what is there.

The Facebook and Twitter widgets are available to any home app - they are not Sense widgets. You can use it with LauncherPro or ADW or just about any other third party launcher.

What about the music widget?

I'm not sure about the music widget, since I never listen to music on my phone. Somebody else will have to answer that.

You're are correct in thinking that any widget under 'HTC Widgets' will not be available on a non-Sense ROM. The other widgets SHOULD be available, but each dev adds/removes things from his ROM, so you may find that a particular widget is not in a particular ROM.

Like Doogald I don't play much music, but as I recall, the music controls on the lock screen are a Sense thing.

I had xtrROM on my phone for several weeks (currently I'm on Nonsensikal). My wife has xtrSense on her phone, I don't think that I could say that xtrROM is noticeably faster than xtrSense. Both are clearly faster than stock, but *I* think they are fairly similar in speed to each other. Note that on both of our phones I turned off the overclock and had the phones run at stock speed. I'm more interested in saving battery, than gaining 1/4 second in opening an app. :)

Sorry to quote myself, but I meant to add that the Facebook and Twitter widgets are parts of the Facebook and Twitter app, not HTC Sense, in case that wasn't obvious. HTC Sense comes with a Peep Twitter widget, but the Twitter app (and a number of other Twitter apps) include home screen widgets that work with LauncherPro.

As I mentioned in another post, one of my major complaints about xtrROM 4.6 is the multi-touch keyboard that is included with the ROM. As much as I do not like the HTC keyboard - I prefer the stock vanilla Android keyboard - the multi-touch one is pretty bad, IMHO. I'd search for the lo res HTC_IME keyboard and install it if I was to switch to xtrROM full-time.

I do think that anybody who is using xtrSENSE and is thinking about switching to xtrROM should think about whether they really like the HTC keyboard, and whether they want to try another one. If you want to try running without Sense you can always stay with xtrSENSE and install LauncherPro or ADW and making that your default launcher.

Thanks for the answers, fellas. It's good to know I'll still be able to use my fav widgets on xtrROM. I love xtrSENSE but was mainly interested in xtrROM because I heard it was much faster. I think before I go through the wiping/flashing/installing I may D/L LP or ADW 1st and see if it's something I like using and If it is I'll go from there.

I D/L LP and played around with it for a few hours...not a fan. I like being able to put any program shortcut on my homescreen and I couldn't with LP. Also, I noticed it was a little laggy scrolling btwn screens. I did love being able to change the dock to my 4 most used programs (handcents, market, browser and gmail) and the 3D app drawer is fantastic, really cool, but I guess I'm a bigger sense fan then I thought. I'm glad I found out before I went and bought a senseless phone. Looks like my next phone will be a Inc or hopefully a new HTC that blows the Inc away :)
