Changing the dock

I don't have launcher pro or anything like that, but can I still change the icons in my dock? I have a captivate.

with launcher pro you can have more then one dock as well. i've found that to be an amazing feature.

i had the vibrant which runs touchwiz as well for a few days and i remember been able to change the icon in the dock, but only for the message and browser icons i think.. just open the app drawer and press menu > edit... hope it works

Ok. If I had launcher pro what else can I do besides changing around the dock?Can I also use different icons? If so, how?Forgive me if I am asking dumb questions, I am really new to all this freedom with android phones, I was an iphone user for awhile.

launcher pro has TONS of customization. swipe commands for docked icons, hide status bar, up to 7 screens, Sense pinch to screen preview, change highlight colors, change dock background,missed call/sms/email bubble on dock icons, ect. just check it out, it is pretty amazing. the pro version brings some sweet widgets and some other extras that are totally worth the $$

if you are looking to just change icons, i suggest shorter cut from the app store. you just create shortcuts to apps, and it allows you to change the icon to something you have in your gallery or from an icon pack that you downloaded from the market.

just a preview of what shorter cut and Launcher Pro can do. all custom icons, custom launcher dock, and launcher pro swipe pop-up for the browser shortcuts...pretty awesome IMO.

Thanks for the info Turdbogls. I really don't want that much customization, I honestly would just like to be able to replace the email icon in my dock to messaging, I tried launcher pro and just got overwhelmed with all the options.
