Had to restarted my phone this morning then notice I have a new version of the Market. Like the one in Froyo and those in other countries are getting. Comments are now on separate tab, you can update all and it includes a widget. Not sure what the widget does....maybe displays updates?

I keep trying to install this but its not working properly. When I open it up in Astro it only opens up the contents of the zip file, doesn't give me the option to install. I removed the .zip extension at the end but got the same result. Any help?

How are you opening it? When it's zipped, just tap the file (don't tap and hold) and it should bring up two options: Browse File and Open App Manager. Choose the second one, and one of the buttons on the next screen should be Update.

Yes Several times unfortunately. :(
I havent bought any new paid apps since I installed the new market. But Sunday I had to do a factory reset and I applied the new market. Then I re-downloaded/installed the apps I already had paid for and they went thru fine. Admittedly, thats a slightly different situation than yours but I guess Im saying I have not encountered your problem with paid apps...yet

Don, a short time ago I remember you posting as having over 100 apps downloaded, not counting the stock drawer apps.

I'm wondering if you've seen any of the paid apps at all load into your device, and also if you have pressed menu > downloads to see if they're included in that list.

Here's a page with the Market apk on it, by the way:

Thanks, you are correct - that was me. The previous paid apps are still there, still working, and still listed in "menu", "downloads" section of the market. Since I just updated to the 2.2 Market a few hours ago, I haven't had any paid apps "update" yet, so I can't be sure of all the behavior I may be experiencing just yet. What I do know is that the 2.2. Market is nice, but totally not needed for me now if I can't buy apps. (more precisely can buy, can't download!)

It's odd, because I first thought it might be some account issue since it was just for paid apps, but it actually lets me pay for it, sends me a confirmation e-mail and all, but then hangs forever on "Authorizing" and doesn't actually download.

At this point I'd really just like the 2.1 .apk so I can go back I think.

p.s. Thanks!! Just noticed your market link now.! I will try reverting.

I just finished the new apk download and install. I went in to purchase a paid Spanish dictionary app and it allowed the transaction but not the download.

After waiting for a few minutes I went into Market and cleared the cache. The download almost immediately began. I am not certain if it was just a coincidence timed to the cache clearing.

I do know that computers hate redundancies. ;) Are there any remnants of the old Market in with the new one on your device's applications list?

It's working fine. Reminds me of the one provided in Froyo ROMs I was using on my Eris.

Android Market Apk Download Links

I can't find one of these that are actually the 2.1 (haven't tried the paid link at the top)

Thanks again. I tried clearing the cache from the Manage Applications in Settings after seeing this. No luck though. Is that what you meant?

I was not clear.

My routine when installing a new version of an app is to remove the old one first by clearing cache and data and then uninstalling via the applications manager.

I then go into Root Explorer and do a search for the name of that app for any remnants and delete them as well.

I reboot the device and then download and install the new app.

Thanks, you are so helpful. that is the link that asks me to register and pay to download it. Maybe I am missing the correct link somewhere on that page, I'll check again.

Heh.. I'd forgotten that I registered there a while back.. sorry.

..doing a search for "vending.apk" now..

..[edit].. ok, it's a (free) zip on this page at XDA (you'll need to log in there to download the zip):
