Evo on plane

I'm hoping southwest will allow me to use my phone while I'm on a flight this week. I want to use snesoid during the flight. Anyone know if I'm not allowed to do this?

Also, what do people do to maintain a charge on their phone throughout long flights? Do you hope for the best? Or are there ways of charging these days on planes?

If you put the phone into Air Plane mode you should be ok to use it. You may need to turn it off upon take off and landing however.

As for the charging, thats a good ? that unfortunately I cannot answer. Id imagine that it all depends on the company, plane your on and whether your First Class or Coach.

I suppose if you have enough time then you can get one of those Cheap batteries from Ebay.

Here is a link for Ebay: 2x 1500mAh batteries for like 10 bucks.
2x 1500mAh battery + dock charger for Sprint HTC Evo 4G - eBay (item 250641711190 end time Oct-27-10 01:08:58 PDT)

or.
2x 3500mAh batteries for like 22 bucks.
NEW 2X 3500MAH BATTERY + CHARGER FOR SPRINT HTC EVO 4G - eBay (item 320591775204 end time Oct-17-10 02:27:56 PDT)

Make sure that all the batteries are fully charged and you should be able to rock and roll.

yes.. airplane mood is what u need to use. turn off when taking off and landing.

one thing for battery...
are you taking your laptop??? use usb cable to charge phone.
turn on laptop, but turn off screen on laptop.

depending on model and maker... there are chargers using regular batteries.

Unfortunately I don't have one, but that is a good idea regardless. I'm flying southwest, so I there are any options built into the seat. Maybe I'll try finding one of those AA battery packs that you can plug into a micro usb/usb.

Thanks for the input guys!

On Southwest youre pretty much stuck with whatever power you brought on with you, be it another battery or a bigger one.

Now, in first class on long haul flights they are nice enough to give you power. Ive used it a lot going from ATL to LAX and its nice. I like to watch movies on my phone (dont like to break out the laptop because its big and cumbersome).

That's awesome. If I flew more often, I'd probably take first/business class more.

Definitely agree regarding laptop vs. phone on a plane. The EVO makes it so easy for me to leave my laptop in my bag without struggling to watch a video or movie on a flight. I never thought I'd say that about my phone ever, but I was completely comfortable watching a movie on the EVO's 4.3 screen! So much easier!

For those that have used "Airplane Mode" with the EVO, if you turn the phone completely off (after putting into Airplane Mode) will it stay in Airplane mode when you turn the phone back on?

Yes it will stay in air plane mode..flew from ATL to Houston 2 weeks ago and back also all i saw were evos lol..but you should be fine with airplane mode on, but I flew on Delta with their wifi..pretty neat if you ask me lol

Yes

Delta has wifi on the plane?...LOL...shows how often I fly.

Lots of them have it now, even budget ones like Airtran I believe. They do charge a pretty penny for it.

Be careful w/ airplane mode and power on/off. I did that last month and there are bunch of apps (including sprints) that start up when you power on. One or more of those was ignoring the fact that I was in airplane mode and searching for a signal which caused my battery to drain right in front of my eyes. I was literally watching the % count down. I killed off all the apps that were running (that I could) and it was fine.

After that, I just put in airplane mode and shut the screen off. No more power offs for me on a plane - it's too annoying.
