And what exactly WASN'T wrong with your three Eris Phones?

The phone that you couldn't wait to get rid of, so you schemed your way into a D2. It's a shame they didn't give you a Droid1 or keep you in an ERIS. Had they, I wonder how long it would have been untill all the "Unable to Duplicate" problems started appearing.
Then again, I'm sure you would have continued to scream and cry and invent problems just to get the Latest & Greatest.

Then again with the announcement of the Droid Pro last week and the coming "New and Improved" HTC, I am certain there will be many people crying about their D1's and even D2's very shortly!

They actually all had something wrong with them, and I didn't cry to Verizon, not sure why you think that, i'm not some child that will cry wolf every time till he gets his way.

That's gotta be a new record.

I'm on my original Eris and I really like my phone. I will be perfectly happy to keep it until my upgrade date or even beyond. I generally keep a phone until it simply dies. But I keep reading about all these problems people have had and how many times they have had to send their Eris back. I'm terrified that mine will develop problems just after the one year mark - and I'll still be 8 months short of my upgrade date. Has anyone had any experience with VZW support on a phone they had more than 1 year? I got mine at Christmas.

If you haven't hit any problems then you should be fine. Frisco and I (even though we upgraded) never had issues with either of our phones. I think the main problem with the replacements going out now is that they are running out of properly working refurbs.

+1 re. all of this...I never had any problems with my Eris (week after launch in November '09), athough I gotta say I was very careful with it. It never went into my pocket (just in its leather case); was never on the charger longer than it took to charge it; was very careful to not wiggle the USB/charging connector while attached; and never let it get too hot under any conditions.

I think we are seeing "musical Erises (Erii?)" with the a returned phone simply being recycled to another person without being properly fixed or attended to... We are already seeing more and more reports of trackball issues...mostly for rooted folks that can no longer properly operate Amon_RA's custom recovery since it relies upon the trackball.

Not me, I was abusive as hell to my Eris, but it just kept right on working and still works fine.

I agree 100%

I'm on my Original Eris, Rooted and running Kaos Froyo. I couldn't be happier! :D

Oh, and 99.5% of Eris owners are probably on their original eris as well! It's just that you see a higher number of people here with issues, because well, because most people create accounts on this site for 1 of 2 reasons:

- They are geeks like me and love technology/computers/phones/etc.
- They are having issues with their phones and are looking for a fix

Most other Eris owners could care less!

Lol!!! That's awesome :p. Its a tough little phone all right and probably hasn't received all of the kudos it probably deserves. I'm hoping to keep mine for a very long time (I envision times that I won't want to carry my X and will switch to my Eris when needed).

I did make two concessions when I got my Droid X--no screen protector or silicone case/cover (athough I did get the leather case for it). I'm livin' on the edge, eh? :D

Yeah... you're a wild one:p

I would be curios to find of how that works out for you if you ever do it. I think it will drive you crazy.
Kind of like when I buy new shoes thinking I'm still going to wear my old shoes. Then I look at my old shoes and think... those things are nasty. I was wearing those?:)

Lol (as always! :D).

Really, the two main differences I see when I get my Eris out to test some root things or test my apps on a different phone is how small the virtual keyboard is compared to the X. Its really hard for me to type anything on the Eris in portrait mode (and I usually use landscape on my X). Its obviously a slower device (clearly not as responsive), but its still a very responsive phone (when rooted).

Oh, and I've noticed that the colors look a little different between the X and the Eris (I frequently bring up my same app and do side-by-side comparisons to make sure it works correctly on both phones).

The Eris's compact size, weight, and feel-in-the-hand is markedly different, but in a good way. Still a great little phone.

was very careful to not wiggle the USB/charging connector while attached

Lately I have noticed that when I have mine plugged in to the PC, if I move it I sometimes get USB disconnect/reconnect "ker-donk" audibles from the PC.

Makes me nervous - I'm the type of person that takes care of his stuff & keeps stuff until they break (prior phone - 5 years!!)

When you consider that smartphones are designed with the expectation that they will be charged once/day, it definitely seems that HTC blew it in the mechanical design of the USB/trackball.

I just find it hard to believe that there are so many problem ERIS phone out there.

Don't you think it's odd that these "problems" only happen to people in online forums / fan clubs. And that when "The genius of the week" posts about this week's supposed, though never able to be duplicated by Verizon or HTC problem or anomaly. Suddenly everyone has the same problem too.

15 seconds to develop or for you to discover a problem? Thats a hard one to believe even on a Net forum.

For there to be a problem discoverable so quickly would imply that it was something you were looking for and one we can only assume, you complained to Verizon about as well on phones 1 and 2.

So that leaves two options.

1.Verizon sent you a replacement phone with the same exact problem, you just sent the prior one back with. Which in effect is you stating they never checked the phone. Possible, but highly unlikely.

2. Or, you are lying and or purposely broke the phone so you can get the upgrade which is what you wanted all along.

It's OK, everyone here want's the latest and greatest but to continue with these played out, "it's my 3rd ERIS" type posts, is getting kind of OLD... Don't you think?

Don't you think it's odd that you would expect to hear about these problems somewhere else? Do you expect to learn about them while reading the newspaper?

Obviously, some people are going to lie about problems with their phone so they can get something better. But, you're really just making yourself look like a jackass. There are several problems that dozens (probably hundreds) of users have experienced with the eris, many that deal with the trackball. That's poor manufacturing, not pathological lying.

dude, do you really think people really wan to go through all that trouble just to get a new phone? having to set up your switch phones, go through the long process of setting it up only to find it has the same problem or otherwise. going through that multiple times is REALLY REALLY REALLY annoying! stop accusing people of just trying to get a new phone. even though im sure a small amount just call verizon just to try and get a better device. the majority of us dont do that! you are a complete ****** my friend!

Hmm, Lets see so many contradictions, i'm not sure where to start.

First - I'm Not your Friend!
2nd - Yes I do believe it and So do you as you clearly said here "even though im sure a small amount just call verizon just to try and get a better device." unless you are one of those ****** Holes who type crap but are "UNSURE" of what they are talking about.
3rd - What Long process? He said 15 seconds!
4th - What trouble? Call verzion Claim you have a problem - Real Hard. Whole call will take less then 10 mins and 24 hours later you have a new phone delivered to your door.

Now maybe You are one of those Newbie complainers that will let some junior customer service rep. talk you through a factory reset. So yes in those rare instances the whole process could take 15 mins instead of 10.

More to the point, it takes about the same amount of time to get a replacement phone from verizon as it does to make a post here bragging of your scheming!

P.S.
Only the guilty feel like they are being accused of anything.
An innocent person would let all this go in one ear and out the other.

Felling Guilty are you?

Maybe you are one of the lucky ones with an eris.
But I was so fed up with my eris that I bought myself a d1 off of craigslist for $200. Now I have a d2. I won't go back to htc because my experience was so bad
Now I wish I would have waited and made verizon pay for it.

Don't assume people here are liars just because u don't have the same problems.
If someone wants to lie to verizon to get a new phone, there's nothing anyone can do about it.
But i take people here on their word. Many find this forum because of their problems.

Pay no attention to him. He says the same thing every single post.
