2.2 Pushed back..again

I am getting pretty frustrated with waiting for 2.2 on the Samsung Vibrant. I purchased this phone the first day (Mid July 2010) assuming the Vibrant would get 2.2 by September/October at the very lastest.

Come on, this is quite ridiculous. 2.2 has been out officially since May 2010, two months BEFORE the Vibrant launch (and one month before the European Galaxy S launch).

If they claim the phone will get 2.2 "by the end of the year" That means they will start pushing 2.2 updates to US Vibrant owning the last week of December and it may take one month before everyone is updated.

That means potentially a full 7 months into the life cycle of the Vibrant for many current owners to get 2.2. Meanwhile 3.0 will have launch by the than.

I only keep phones 10-12 months and resell or upgrade again. I am frustrated by Samsung's lack of effort when every other major manufactuer/carrier with "super phones" like the Droid X, D2, HTC Incredible have long updated to 2.2.

I should have listed to people and not trust Samsung. It's been 7 years since I last owned a Samsung (my last experience with Samsung and Sprint was horrible (horrible RF with their 2003 phone).. And I may not buy another Samsung phone ever again.

I kind of feel the same way. After almost 3 months after release we only get a "GPS" fix and nothing else. I think they could have waited to release Froyo with a GPS fix instead of doing it this way. Samsung keeps this "It's coming, wait no, now you have to wait" game going. Everyone keeps bringing up the article where Samsung says that All Galaxy S phones will get 2.2. But that doesn't mean we will actually get it or even get it this year. Jesus christ the freaking MyTouch 3G is just (rumored) to get 2.2 after how long? And that's stop android! My new boss has the droid X and my GF has the Dinc and they're pretty slick devices and have 2.2. I don't understand why Samsung has to screw us all over. I also saw yesterday that they new Galaxy series phones are out, or previewed in the UK. Again, this just looks like samsung came out with the Galaxy S phones, sold a shit ton and now are moving on to something else while leaving us all behind. I was interested in getting the Gtab but now with all this bullshit with Samsung not updating their software I wouldn't waste my money on it.

I feel this way about it. If Samsung doesn't have at the VERY least a fix out for this worthless gps by the end of this month, I'll do my very best to never touch one of their products again. They've had 5 months to fix this but so far haven't done squat for the Vibrant. As for 2.2? I'm used to getting screwed over on updates like this from Motorola as a previous Cliq XT owner. Motorola obviously goes by the same playbook as Samsung. A lot of talk and promises of an update coming but in the end nothing. The poor Cliq user are STILL running 1.5 to this day, 3-1/2 months past the last day they were supposed to get an update to 2.1! Wanna guess how long it'll be before I buy anything Moto again?

Of course when people here started complaining about the updates taking too long the Samsung fanboys (company shills?) starting immediately belittling them saying they weren't being patient enough, the phone was fine as is, blah, blah, blah. I want to see them defend Samsung now knowing they were wrong the whole time. I won't hold my breath though as I know it won't happen.

It's amazing to see Samsung treating the customers of their best phone like crap. I mean the silly little promises that "2.2 is coming" are an insult. Every Android user knows that regular software updates make or break a phone. Enough with the stupid empty promises Samsung! WTH is 2.2 and oh yeah, WHEN WILL MY GPS WORK AS ADVERTISED????

GPS is fixed in the latest OTA JI6 which is rolling out or if you know how you can flash it yourself.

As for 2.2, if you guys are so impatient to wait for something that apparently is a deal breaker for you to own this phone, all I can say is you shouldn't buy the phone in the first place until 2.2 is released.

Of course if they release it when not all the bugs are fixed there will be non-stop complaining as well.

Being that this is my first foray into Android, I guess I'm a little more calm & patient about getting froyo. Sure, flash will be fun when I get it, but I'm enjoying the heck out of my phone right now, & will enjoy it more once I get the GPS update.

No, I don't think it's fair for Samsung to promise things they can't/won't deliver on. But, I'd rather them delay the update if there are still some kinks they need to work out, rather than push the update with tons of bugs that will make our devices WORSE instead of better. Keep in mind, though, that they're really not THAT much behind schedule. It's only mid-October. And, as others have already pointed out, this report concerns Samsung UK, not necessarily us.

I know how hard it is to wait in this day of new technology being constantly pushed out to consumers. I guess I still subscribe to the notion of buying a device for what it does out of the box, rather than what it MIGHT do in the future. Unless something crazy happens, my plan is to keep my Vibrant until an awesome device comes out w/ stock Gingerbread. I'm really not counting on the Vibrant getting a Gingerbread update...but if that happens I'll see it as a nice surprise, rather than something that is being withheld.

We have a great device, guys. And with the GPS fix along w/ other little tweaks rolling out right now it's getting even better. I'm choosing to enjoy my device & what it can do NOW, rather than worry about when it'll be able to do more.

Not everyone's GPS is fixed with JI6. My mom has a Vibrant that was stock. Never rooted, no lg fix, no lbstestmode GPS fix. Totally stock. She received JI6 the first day and still had zero out of 2 visible satellites connected standing outside with no tall buildings around.

Hi all -- first time poster, occasional lurker. Just got a software update on Vibrant -- checked phone info, and is still showing version 2.1, but now also states "update 1." Don't know if that's supposed to connote upgrade to 2.2, but can now access Media Hub with Movie Store and TV Store. Woo hoo!

'fraid it's not 2.2. No one has that yet...at least no Vibrant has that yet. Trust me, when 2.2 gets released, you'll hear about it! :D
