I've read some posts in the GMail app crashing on the Incredible, but this has been happening on my Sprint HTC Hero DAILY, (Force Close) and I'm wondering if anyone can save my phone before I feed it to the sole of my size 11s.

My Hero thanks you.

I used to solely use the gmail app before I flashed froyo to my phone. After that it went bonkers for me. I use the stock email app now, as it has all the features of the old gmail app that worked before.... I can't even update gmail in the market, it always says error when it tries to install it. The app opens for me, but I can't send email from it, and it usually lags in receiving new emails.... *sucks*

You would think that since we have Google phones, gmail would be a given

Update your gapps, that should bring you up to gmail 2.3 or uninstall old gmail app via TB, reboot phone, go back into market and download latest version of the gmail app.

I just flashed the new gapps and build 88 last night. It has the new car home and updated gmail.

I did a full wipe, data, davlik and cache

Here is the updated gapps http://mirror.teamdouche.net/get/various/gapps-mdpi-20101008-signed.zip

Here is build 88 http://mirror.teamdouche.net/get/heroc/cm_heroc_full-88.zip

Do you think it would be an issue to just flash the apps with a dalvik wipe only? I have some stuff on my phone I don't want to lose... (obviously I would nandroid first)

<EDIT>

So far, it seems to be fine without a full wipe, and just wiping the dalvik cache.... Will keep you posted if things go awry

Um, you lost me at "flashed" and "build 88." Then I became irreversably lost at "davlik" which coincendentally sounds like a great name for a Bram Stoker caharacter...

Do you have a rooted phone? Should I just download these files if I have an unrooted cellular device?

As you can see, I was quoting 330D's problem, not yours.

To your problem, if clearing data and cache and a reboot did not help, then I don't know what else to suggest. This solution has worked for me every time I have an issue with gmail.

Then again, I've never had gmail 'crash' on me everyday

Thank you for the quick response.

Someone suggested, in a land far away, doing a hard reset, which I did, increasing internal memory fo the mid 80s. Since then I've had one crash, which was crushing. But, I'm over it.

Wouldn't it be nice to have a phone that you didn't HAVE to run continuous files on and flash, and root, and constantly maintain?

Jus' sayin'.

I'm out!

Android isn't for everyone, and those of us who like to tinker, to get it the way we want actually enjoy that part of it. I would never have bought the Hero if I wasn't gonna mess with it and flash different stuff to it. The cool thing about rooting is that you get to pretty much control how everything works on your phone. (and you don't have to be a geek to be able to do it, I promise)

Anyway, so, in order to use Google's GMail app, Google's first public program behind Search, I need to flash root and hack my phone. Trust me, you need to be a geek to do this.

I'm so davlik.
