expecting 5+ days on stock battery

I am expecting more than 5 days of battery life using the stock battery.

Right now I'm at 79% and it's been 40 hours since unplugged.

This is what I configured:
Rooted
Installed ROM superevo
Installed Kernel 7.6 BFS SnapTurbo enabled
Installed setcpu with profile of screen off set to 245mhz, while keeping regular usage at 1ghz
Turned off back ground data
Turned off 3g

My minimal usage so far contained:
1 missed phone call
2 short phone calls (total probably less than 5 minutes)
3 text messages
2 sessions of manually turning 3g on and autosyncing my work calendar
2 sessions of short usage of navigating around the phone (calendar, settings, etc.)
10-20 times of pressing power switch to check clock

I will update again when my battery finally dies after minimal use, and also grab a shootme screenshot.

Good battery life can be attained!!!

Update:
I wrote up a post-review on my blog:

Yea, but in my opinion, using the EVO like that is a waste of potential. My battery gets me about 8 hours on pretty heavy use, and then i just plug her up for another run through. But this is pretty cool how much life you got, and the results will be very interesting to see. Keep up the good work!

Good arguments, but I must configure my phone for maximum potential in case the day comes when i need to extend the phone for couple days. It could be a weekend somewhere, it could be stuck in an elevator shaft, etc... Just part of risk management.

I'm just testing the phone now with minimal usage, and it's not like i don't use my phone, i still got my calls, and texts, and used calendar activesync when i needed them.

After this test, i will go back to normal usage of the phone, but at least i know how to extend my battery life, and perhaps only charge every 3 days instead since I'm lazy.

...because plugging in the charger is such a painfully strenuous activity!

Good point. I also have a second handset, a simple Samsung 330 I use as my second line. If I need extended call time I use that phone as it has better life than my EVO and an extended battery.

I can see where he's going with this so perhaps trimming all the fat off the handset IS worthwhile for him but I solved that with a second phone. I do so much with this handset now as it is.

If I need extra juice and can't charge it I have a spare battery pack, not a battery as I am not pulling the protective case to swap batteries. I just plug in the pack.

my plan ...

had a day at the state fair with awful reception and it killed the battery ...would have loved to have taken more pics and vids

Looks like you are in Texas?

I went to the State Fair for the Texas/ou game and was prepared for my phone to drain like carxy, I had my spare battery with me, etc.

I unplugged at 7 that morning and when I got back to Plano at 8:30 I still had 30% left. I was AMAZED. Granted, I was careful. But I still sent and recied text messages like crazy, took lots of pictures, etc. One thing I thought was really cool is that several of my friends have the Evo so we knew we could put on 4g to send and receive texts during the game when the 3g network would be bogged down. Those with BBs didn't get the texts til several HOURS later :)

(ps - Spring must not be in Plano because I had time without service almost 100% of the time !)

So that 30% remaining includes having 4g on for most of the game.

I spend a lot of time on the lake and reception is horable with all the hills but I can still spend all day on the lake, not change a thing and know I'll still have battery left if I need it.

Still....I awlays bring my spare battery and car charger.

57 hours since unplugged, 71% battery remaining... I'm in SoCal, receptions been okay, like typically 1 to 2 bars (although reception seems very good).
I'm extremely happy with the new mods. With stock rom when i first had the device, i also did a minimal usage test, and was only able to last 3 days.

$79.99/month (assuming no discount or family plan) gets you great battery life and:
15 missed phone calls
30 short phone calls (total probably less than 5 minutes)
45 text messages
15 sessions of manually turning 3g on and autosyncing my work calendar
15 sessions of short usage of navigating around the phone (calendar, settings, etc.)
150-300 times of pressing power switch to check clock

Might I suggest a watch, a pocket calendar, and a prepaid cell phone?

Just saw the elevator shaft thing. Classic :)

You only need fifteen minutes of battery in that case. Send email and texts to everyone, update calendar and facebook and twitter to "stuck in elevator shaft" and leave the GPS coordinates.

If you do get stuck in an elevator shaft, you may use more data in that 15 minutes than in the previous three months ;)

Thanks for the suggestion. But i hate inconveniences such as wearing a watch, pocket calendar, or charging the battery (although i have plugs at home, work, and in the car).

I will get a prepaid cell phone if they offered the evo 4g with a good reliable/coverage network. I will also move to cheaper plan options if they offered it. I do use the 25% discount found in slickdeals, so i'm not paying too much, and have free wireless tethering through rooting.

Again, i'll return to using my phone normally after the minimal usage test. It's just that people always talk bad about the battery, and i'm here to prove the battery potential.

When I return to my normal usage of the evo it is simply navigation, some web surfing, some book reading, some facebook, and some real-time stock quotes. The Evo is absolutely a wonderful phone, but i don't necessarily need to be glued to it, and needing to charge less often is wonderful.

Everyone uses their Evo differently. After considering all the tradeoffs, the Evo is still the best phone for me at the moment. Thanks.

Your efforts are all worthwhile, don't let anyone discourage you.

If there was an app that would turn the EVO into just a phone with the click of a single button, I would install it. You can toggle it back to super badass mode anytime you want, but can also run conservatively if it's just sitting there waiting to take or place calls.

Remember when cell phones were only for making calls?

Hey Palmetto, thanks. The superevo rom with snap turbo and setcpu is essentially that except without a good looking toggle button. When i turn off background data and 3g, it's essentially a phone with SMS, but no mobile data. When i turn the screen off it is running at 245mhz saving enormous battery life. I can easily set my phone to run at 1.19mhz when the screen is on, and superevo is currently the fastest rom with average linpack scores of 45 (stock evo had a score of 6, so superevo is like 7 times faster). The only big issue with superevo right now is that it doesn't support 4g, but the creator says he's working on that.

To the op, this is what I'm getting from what you're doing.

You don't use your phone at all. A PDA would best off, along with a regular flip phone, for you.
I mean... really? You might as well just shut your phone completely off then go get a watch... save you the hassle of having to wake up your phone to see the time.

I think the Evo may have been your most expensive impulse buy to date judging from how its used.

You obviously did not read this entire thread, and as well as don't understand people beyond your own little world.
