Froyo KIES update progress reports

Hello guys,

Maybe quite a lot of SGSers are dying to know how the Froyo update progresses across the globe. I know about Sweden and Norway so far. Please let us know if the update appears in KIES in your country. It would be a nice extra if you'd publish your product code too (search your registry under HKCU/Software/Samsung/Kies/DeviceDB for ProductCode).

Thanks in advance

Country:
Sweden [Version: JP6]
Norway

Got this from Memento Mori @ Whirlpool:

I did the reg hack, but it tells me the latest version is still JM1 in the UK :-(

Where's the Samsung Widget that supposed to be there while long press on the home screen??

Do you mean it's gone on Froyo? That's strange. Are you sure they didn't just integrate it into android widgets?

But if you do that, don't you lose your localised keyboard?

Is there any way to do the update *without* Kies yet?

I'd never installed it primarily because I had zero reason to use it (syncing contacts to Outlook? riiiight :S) but also after playing with the SGS for a while experiencing the average level of QA they don't do I just thought it wouldn't work.

I was right. Currently spent 1 hour nobbing about trying to get this crock of shit software to work, the posts on the internet aren't identifying any clear reliable fix so I hold little hope.

Is there any chance we'll be able to use one of solid and dependable image loaders from the dev community to do the upgrade any time soon?

I'm willing to wait if it means not having to look on Kies ever, ever again.

i tried hacking the registry as above but update failed. i bought my galaxy s in germany but i lived and worked in italy. also i changed the language to english as i don't speak neither italian nor german. i set my kies to uk english and i have windows 7 home premium 64 bit. i also noticed that after you hacked the registry and disconnect the phone and then connect again, kies won't recognize the phone anymore. you have to go to driver recovery in kies to connect to the phone again.

What I suggest you try is removing any versions of Kies installed on your machine and then installing an older version like Kies_1.5.1.10074_2_6.

Once thats done, connect your SGS and make sure that it is detected in the Kies program.
When it has successfully been found and shown on screen, DO NOT disconnect your SGS or close down Kies. Instead open up regedit in a new window, locate your DeviceDB number and then change to these alternate values i.e product code ending in XEE.

Then once those values have been entered, go back to the kies program window and go through the firmware update process.
You should now see the available Froyo JP6/JPM firmware update.

NB. If you dont see the new update, you might have to enable 'test' mode before the update becomes available.

I found all this out after messing about with my own W7 x64 machine ;)

Thank you all for a great forum.
I updated this morning after solving MTP device problems with kies.
product code "GT-I9000HKDXEE".
softewarerevision "I9000XWJP6/I9000XEEJP4/I9000XXJPM/I9000XWJP6".
Love the new text-editing features like marking text and cut/copy/paste.

edit: and by the way. I live in finland.

Didnt noticice anyone picking up on this.
Do you know this to be the case?
or is it a guess?
Well I correctly passed on the date Froyo would be out on the 15th Oct first starting with the Scandinavian countries days before it became public here.
Unfortunately I can not divulge the source but they have been reliable both in dates and in updating what is happening.
I will say one thing in negativity though; this date for the UK release is dependent upon one major carrier getting it right.

..... and that would be my only concern and hesitation.

Hi Beards

Any update on whether what we're seeing released in other countries is all we're going to get, with regards to a GPS fix, or is there still hope for a separate update for that?

Because, as you've probably read, according to lots of people GPS performance hasn't improved greatly with JP6/JPM.

Thanks.

Hi Dave,
I do confess to be a little confused and concerned as to what is happening here...
The last bit of info I heard was the Scandinavian release had Froyo and the other fixes.
However, the one for the UK release which is currently under further testing looks (and I do say that with hesitation at the moment) like there is going to be something slightly different added.
I'm going to see if I can speak with someone on Monday to get clarification as again it's confusing me too.
