Help Task Killers not Necesary!

I found a post which lists some "battery saving" myths for android phones. The one I found most interesting was the one explaining how Task killers are not necessary because....

• Android automatically kills a task when more memory is needed.
• Android automatically kills a task when it’s done doing what it needs to do.
  
• Android automatically kills a task when you haven’t returned to it in a long time.
  
• Most services (while possibly running in the background) use very little memory when not actively doing something.
  
• Killing certain processes can have undesirable side effects. Not receiving text messages, alarms not going off, and force closes just to name a few.
  
• Most applications will exit themselves if you get out of it by hitting “back” until it closes rather than hitting the “home” button. But even with hitting home, Android will eventually kill it once it’s been in the background for a while.

I thought I would share the link to this with all you Xperia users, as I notice alot of people questioning what they should and shouldn't use to save battery!

I'm a computer-technician by trade and so my knowledge lies with computing and not phones, but the technical aspects of the processes seem somewhat similar, which is why after Day 1 I decided to forgo task killers as it just didn't seem quite right.

Killing apps is a bit like killing tasks with Task Manager under Windows... and there are reasons we shouldn't task kill from Task Manager on a frequent basis, mostly related to instability and potential corruption/data loss. Instead, it's only a tool that should be used if you are experiencing issues with your computer.

On a windows machine this may be less problematic, but on a phone there exists a wider opportunity to cause issues that you are not able to quickly resolve on your own, if at all.

The more research I did, the less sense task killers made to have running on a regular basis. But, whatever people want to do with their own phones, hey that's up to them. For me though, I haven't been using them, and have no intentions on using them.

From a computing standpoint, forcing an application to end is just bad for everyday business, and I view my X10 more as a computer than a phone -- I certainly use it like one

Android isn't a poor operating system. It was designed to be the way it is, and the design seems to work just fine if one lets it.

i read with interest that you all recommend dont have a task killer i tried it for a while and found that my alarm would not go off in the mornings , and yes i would set it to wake me up in the morning and nothing so i tried again setting it to go off at 2 pm still no alarm.
but when i had task killer on my alarm would always go off at the set times
any reason for that ?
and no i am not having a pop at anyone over this just what i have notice

I was a task killer whore, Set my task killer to kill every hour or even auto-screen off.

I still have it installed, but just do on my own.. the odd time.

I can't tell battery usage cause no 2 days are alike, but I do notice over the course of sleeping 6-7 hours, the bat only goes down 3 to 5% at most.

Another way I saved myself. Disabling the majority of those god damn fb emails.
Since fb has notification within it (online and in phone), why do I have to get a notification AND an email. LOL.

I have have around 150 installed, and after removing App Killer Pro, my battery seems to be lasting twice as long
