Any advantage to using GMAIL app vs. HTC Mail Widget for GMAIL?

Is there any advantage to using the GMAIL app vs. HTC Mail Widget for GMAIL/GoogleSync?

I'm stock & the wanted to clear room on the pages one way or another & get myself organized.

Gmail has push(instant) email notification. Does HTC Mail?

I prefer the HTC Mail app over the native Gmail app since I don't like the Gmail conversation view on my Sprint HTC Hero 2.1.

But, because I wanted 'instant notifications' in HTC Mail, I'm using the Microsoft ActiveSync connector. So, the way I have everything setup is I first have the Google Account in 'Accounts & Sync' setup to only sync Contacts and Calendar with the Gmail sync disabled. Then, I have the HTC Mail setup using the Microsoft Exchange connector to my Gmail account (see link below) which I have setup to only sync Mail with both the Contacts and Calendar disabled. The reason I'm using the Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync in HTC Mail for my Gmail account is because the Exchange ActiveSync schedule (or Set download frequency) can be set to 'As items arrive' which is the same as 'push'. Plus, there are some other email features available when using the Exchange ActiveSync connector as well.

Emails come through at the same time for both apps on my Evo. So other than the UI, I dont think there are any advantages.

I use K-9 for my email and my GMail emails are pushed to that so I would think GMail does the pushing and not an email program doing the pulling if you see what I mean, so you can use any program.

You can use any program, but every program will support push. The fact that your email provider supports push does not mean the app will support it.

Actually, the HTC mail app allows for less frequent mail retrieval in 5 minute increments via POP/IMAP.

However, like DaWeav posted, if you want instant notification, then you can set up via MS Exchange.

While the GMAIL app only supports instant push or manual refresh.

This. It's all about personal preference. Some prefer one and some prefer the other. Which one is entirely up to you.

It took me a few minutes to figure out how to access the sent folder with the gmail app.

For some reason, it seems easier to me with the stock mail app. I need to spend more time fiddling with it though before I make any concrete statements about this.

Don't you lose all your labels if you go with the HTC mail app? I would assume that if you label all your emails in Gmail (like I do) you wouldn't see any of that in the HTC mail app.
