I've tweaked my share of winmo devices because it was an absolute necessity to do so if you wanted any decent functionality from said devices.

However, my unrooted, ota updated DX works almost flawlessly. Yes,...almost.

The almosts are sometimes annoying, but are easily dealt with. They're not function/device crippling/deal breaker issues, by any means.

So let's hear it for those of us who have chosen to keep our DXs chaste (no I am NOT a *********) until we feel it's absolutely the right choice!

The Eris before, and my Droid X have never been rooted. I seriously thought about it for the Eris for apps2SD, but the Droid X has so much on phone storage, I never even thought about it.

I even stayed with the stock launcher up until a couple of weeks ago when I tried ADWLauncher. Now I have 5 rows of icons instead of 4 on each screen, cool.

I'm sure root is great. And coming from using Bitpim, etc to customize my previous Verizon feature phones you'd thing I'd jump on it. But the Android OS already allows so much customization, I'm fine without root.

No way. I have to have nandroid/clockwork backups, and the only way you can get those is with root.

PS. Lol, shouldn't the title of this thread been "I like mine "virgin"", instead of "I like my "virgin""?

I jailbroke my iPhone 3Gs on day 5 or 6. Had to be done, the stock OS is too crippling. Haven't found this to be the case on my DX. I may root after the next update since it will probably be the last one we get and root won't make a difference for OTAs, but the only reason I really want to root is so I can delete some of the bloatware. But at least I can hide them with LauncherPro.

Update: Well just a week after my post, I rooted my X.

Reasons:

1) It was just too easy. I followed the "idiots guide" posted here in the forums and had root in 5 minutes. It would have been faster if I had update the MotoUSB drivers 1st.

2) I wanted DroCap for easy screen capture (which it is).

3) Other root apps. I don't think I'll be into ROMs, but the few root apps out there are appealing.

Sorry, no longer a member of the virgin club. For some reason I feel like I'm 17 again. Hmmm

Mines not rooted and I am currently enjoying the stock launcher... I go back and forth between it and LPP but for the last few days, I have been using stock...

No need to root for me... The VZW bloatware does not bother me one bit and I have no need for the root only apps....

Oh iv'e rooted plenty of other devices in my time.... Just not interested in it on the X... Everything works great so why bother?

Yup! I'm perfectly happy with what I can do with my DX, and have yet to run across anything I wanted to do that required root. Eventually, I'll probably do it after the next update (since that will probably be the last one we get), and then I can delete the bloatware, but I can hide it with LP, so it's no big deal. Not sure what I'm missing with root, and don't really care.

I probably won't root unless something amazing comes along... I rooted my EVO to get the FPS fix, but the X just scoots right along...

nah i kid. i had no problems with my unrooted Droid X. but ppl don't root cuz they have problems. they root to open up all the other functionality the device offers. that's why i did it. i love customization for one. and tweaking to improve performance? count me in.

Until something really bad happens, then you'd wish you had a nandroid backup to restore everything back to the way it was...

I just don't like taking any chances when it comes to stuff like that. But good for you, since you don't worry about stuff like that happening.

I crash my devices monthly to get all the garbage off... Backup pro works just fine for me but thanks for trying to cram root down my throat...

I don't need root to feel good about myself... I am happy with stock.... Is it really that hard to understand????

Whatever dude. I wasn't trying to cram anything down anyone's throat. A bit over dramatic much? I was just giving reasons why someone might want to root their device.

I see from the ApeX RC2 thread that you have indeed rooted your X.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Nor is there anything wrong with not rooting.

Truth be told though, some 'unrooted' users like to sneak into the 'All Things Root' forum and bash us rooted users from time to time for no apparent reason. The 'Birdman is done' thread is a classic example. There we were, all feeling sorry for ourselves because the bootloader scored an epic win over the hacker militia, and here came all these unrooted evangalists telling us we were all going to hell for even trying to crack the thing in the first place. Heck what they were doing in that forum if they aren't interested in that sort of thing was beyond me. And I left them a message stating as much, "if you don't want to root your phone fine, go have a parade about it and leave us alone".

I suppose some of the above posts may have felt similar to those that irked us superusers, for that I appologize for I know I for one do not like anything cramed down my throat either. I extend to you, the olive branch.

haha yea. i remember when Verizon came out with that business about not being able to get the OTA 2.2 update if you're on the leaked 2.2. tons of ppl came in bragging about how they knew this would happen and how it sucks to be us, etc. the majority of them are probably now rooted as well.

I rooted because I hate the fact that big red doesn't let us delete the bloatware, so I did it myself. And I like to mess around with theming and roms.. Also, having a nandroid backup is a beautiful thing. But to each his own.

The phone is great either way.

I flashed my X to Cricket, I needed root to use their $45 unlimited everything plan.
I also like having root for nandroid backups.

Most apps don't need SU access.... When one does, you will get a popup asking if you want to grant it SU permission...
