I have an HTC Desire (Asia) non branded and Rooted.
I rooted it with Unrevoked and installed Clockworkmod Recovery v2.5.0.7.
I did this to be able to install an hebrew fonts I need. i installed the fonts and everything working great! the phone and the fonts are working.

Today I recieved a notification that an update for android 2.2 is exist and i choose download now. after downloading i click "Install now".
(BTW the file name for the update is : OTA_Bravo_HTC_Asia_WWE_2.13.707.1-1.19.707.7_release2hxiomefj8qotg9p.zip)
The phone rebooted and the installation started and after few seconds I got an error that the signature cannot be verified than i read this post that says to move and rename the downloaded file from /sdcard/download/XXX.zip to /sdcard/update.zip and i did it and know I get different error (that looks like it related to fonts):

assert failed: apply_patch_check ("/system/fonts/DroidSansFallback.ttf", "5065cce92e8420232db95ab3ba421e462b09b965", "47795b4dc5a3adec933a4e2ebf58a1e88da")
E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.

Please assist!

my current system:

HTC Desire bought from eBay
Firmware version 2.1-update1
Kernel Version: 2.6.29-b7e82785
build number: 1.19.707.7 CL171460 release-keys

It's not working because you're rooted. It should work if you turn off signature checking on Clockwork Mod but it will remove root access

If you don't mind losing you data you can install the full ROM by downloading this and running it when connected to HTC Sync:

Shipped ROMs

10x for the fast answers.
so if i understand correctly if i'm rooted i cannot install OTA updates?

1.is there advantage to install the RUU instead of OTA?
2. If i will install RUU it will remove also my HTC sense UI?
3. how do i disable signature checking?
4. if i install RUU is the root access stays?
5. if i unroot and install 2.2 is there a way to root again later?

ignore my next post it is by mistake!

3. Recovery > install zip from sdcard > toggle signature verification

shouldn't i install updates/ROM from "apply update:update.zip"
it is the same if i will do it from "install zip from SD card"?

when you say that i will loose root it is because of the upgrade or because of the "disable signature check"?

also what is exactly:
toggle signature verification
toggle script asserts

please explain why it should be on and why off. what exactly is the purpose of this.

1. It's a fresh install so should perform better - you will loose all data though
2. No as it's the full HTC Sense ROM
3. Can't remember as I don't use Clockwork Mod any more
4. You'll loose root access with ANY update
5. Yes you can root using unrEVOked 3.21

1. it will be perform better only because it is fresh? because I am planning to install everything back again so do i get another advantage from installing RUU over OTA?

Hi,

I tried to update again this time i disabled:
toggle signature verification - disabled
toggle script asserts - disabled
than i click on apply scard:update.zip

still it fails on:
assert failed: apply_patch_check ("/system/fonts/DroidSansFallback.ttf",.................

BTW - I'm using a gold card.

need assistance 10x!.

Go with what EddyOS said, there's also a "RUU update - windows not needed" thread, you put the file onto your SD card named PB99IMG.zip and the bootloader will recognize it and initiate the install when you reboot into recovery. If you're using the HTC Sync method check to turn off USB debugging on your Desire, HTC Sync refuses to work for me until I turn that off.

I upgrade successfully to 2.2 with RUU file and HTC sync like EddyOS suggest and it was very easy.

but I still want to know how to install without windows can you refer me to a guide?
also can you please explain to me where can i found the different ROMS on the network? RUU, HTC specifics, OTA... where is everyone else finding them?

10x!

theres a root guide here
http://androidforums.com/desire-all...oot-guide-updated-20-00-est-oct-5-2010-a.html

also if you search for "no windows required" on the main htc desire forum you get this
http://androidforums.com/htc-desire/177907-froyo-2-09-405-8-update-windows-not-required.html

please dont be lazy, it took me 1 minute to find a sticky at the top of the root forum and 5 seconds to type into the search box exactly what you are looking for

10x!
the root guide I have already knew but the other 1 i tried to search RUU, RUU installation and others but didn't think of "no windows reuiqred"

sorry for your trouble.
