Help Crash and Burn

Last night, my Incredible would sit for a while at the end of the Droid eye animation, then turn off. I let it charge, fully, overnight. This morning, my phone turned on, and all of my contacts (as well as most of my applications) are gone. I tried to shut down normally, but the "shutting down" window just looped infinitely. I pulled the battery, and now it will start up, but when I swipe down to unlock, it freezes.
My face is not this -> :)

Edit: I got the phone to factory reset, and now it kind of works intermittently. I got through the reactivation and all that. It seems to work normally, but still locks up pretty randomly. All of my contacts, except for 7, are gone. Looks like I'm headed to our local Verizon kiosk tomorrow between classes. Joy.

All of your contacts should have been synced to your gmail account and would come back when you sign into your gmail again. That's odd that they didn't.

Its likely be that the OP didn't select what type of account to set up. I know many contacts were labeled as "phone" - which don't sync with Google - and not "Google contacts" - which do sync with google. When I first set up my phone. it took a few days to realize this and made sure contacts were in Gmail Contacts.

Either way that sucks about your phone OP. Insurance? Warranty? Good luck.

Okay, I'm not exactly sure what happened, but I noticed that the phone worked consistently when I had the SD card out... so I formatted the Micro SD card and everything works fine now. I saw a post elsewhere, afterward, in which someone had run into corrupted files on his card, which would cause his phone to lock up.
My contacts were all Google contacts, so they should have synced with my Gmail, but I went to Verizon's BackupAssistant page and managed to retrieve almost all of them, so I'm satisfied there.
Now I just feel dumb because I reset my phone basically for nothing. Oh well. Here's to fresh starts?
Anyone else run into this... situation?

Thanks for mentioning this, I've been saving new calls I get to phone, anyway to move em?

I haven't figured out a way to change "Phone" contacts to "Google" contacts. I always just input contacts on a desktop browser and deleted "phone" contacts. It was annoying though.

***ADDED*** Maybe you could export your phone contacts out as vcards and upload those into google?
