Root Rooting questions for vibrant.

im pretty new to my vibrant (technically havent even received it yet at this point its still in the mail) and im already reading about ways to making it better so i had some questions i can hopefully get answered.

1. i understand what the purpose and process of rooting and lagfixing my phone but what exactly is the risk to it? (i.e. besides the bricking does it affect you in future updates released by my service provider? with me being new to the process what are the odds of my bricking my phone?)

2. my main reason behind wanting to root my phone is me wanting it to go faster, is there a way to achieve this without rooting?

3. ive noticed that many people have released different ways to root and lagfix a phone is it safe to say that one way is better than another or are they all about the same?

4. are there any other differences when using different processes to root and lagfix your phone? (i.e. speeds achieved)

5. any root/lagfix processes one would suggest to someone new to the scene?

Welcome to the forum!!

1. No. But you should know that it is almost impossible to brick the Vibrant. As far as lagfix, only do it if your phone is REALLY lagging, otherwise it is pointless. You'll tend to see a lot of people comment about quadrant scores; but honestly all quadrant scores really are is a pissing match. So with that being said, if your phone responds quickly and smoothly, DON't install the lagfix.

2. The Vibrant is respectively fast as it is, even without rooting it and having all the bloatware installed. However, again the main benefit of rooting is to remove all the bloatware which will make your phone a little more responsive.

3. It's personal preference really. I use this method everytime and it works like a charm.

5. Again, try this method; it takes all of 15 seconds and your phone is fully rooted and ready to go.

If you're looking for performance in your Vibrant, it's tough to beat Bionix, a custom ROM by sombionix over at xda. However, if you're new to Android/rooting/ROM's and all, I suggest a LOT of reading before taking any action.
