So I currently have a Rooted X and I may have something lined up where I might trade for a Fascinate. I see the root thread here is kinda discombobulated, no stickies or root guides all bundled up nice and neat like in other threads (BOOO D13, Frisco and OTD you guys are slippin' :D) What Roms do we have, OC?, Themes, etc.... I'm up at 330 am with my 2 year old daughter and its hurting my brain trying to gather all the information I'm looking for.

Yeah a sticky or two here would be nice :). XDA hosts pretty much everything that is available for the fascinate at the moment, but when I find af in general to be a friendlier place to go with general questions and when seeking help. Also, this may sound dumb, but the color scheme on xda for some reason bothers me and makes me not want to spend as much time there as I do.

Anyway, back to your question. Selling my DX and switching to the fascinate has been great for me. In the way of themes there are currently less than the DX but that is more a product of the DX being out an extra 2 months than the SF, there are several from modified nextheme, to the black sense bar, incognito, etc and they are over at xda.

The roms that are available are 2.1 based as we are all awaiting 2.2, but unlike the dx with how amazingly fast the sf is, minus flash, you don't need it as badly. There are a few over at XDA, personally I'm happy with my current set up so I'm waiting for froyo before I grab a rom.

Overclocking is where the fascinate shines at the moment. The voodoo lag fix for galaxy s phone has been ported over now, and corresponding kernels with it are available. Again, over at xda there are low voltage and standard voltage kernels available from 1000 mhz to 1250. Some peoples phones work great with low voltage (mine doesn't). Voodoo really is the single biggest thing out imo for the fascinate at the moment. It makes the phone fly. That being said, read over everything very carefully as voodoo and backups and restore are slightly different than other android phones because of the way it rewrites your system. If you have issues and need to restore your phone, disable it first. Myself (and many others) didnt and had a fun few hours fixing it.

There are a lot of knowledgeable and helpful people here that I'm sure can give you much better answers than me, but if you make the swtich you won't regret it!

This ^ is why I love this place. Thanks for the awesome response. There is a reason I've been hanging around this place for almost a year now. This place is great for those that just have general questions and want to hang out. I like XDA, but I will always check here for an answer first! I know what you're saying about colors of it (I literally laughed out loud when I read that). From what I understand about low voltage kernels they really only improve battery life, so I'm not overly concerned with them. I am hoping the dev community choses to back this phone. Its slow going with the X. They locked that thing down like fort knox. And since this is the only phone on Verizon that compairs to the X I'm sure they will. Do we already have a Cyanogen port for the Fascinate? And have they figured out a way to remove bing 100 % like remapping the search button to work with google search? and making links from the broswer default to google maps instead of bing ?

To be honest I'm not entirely sure on the bing question as I'm not a huge user of the search stuff. I know that you can get google search by using the 2.2 market which is (again) available for download from xda. I think I got it from having to use odin to restore as the system restore has that in by default (I believe). I know that it still defaults to bing in the browser but the future roms may remap that, not sure though.

Cyanogen is currently not available, but Koush has said that as soon as 2.2 is available he will be supporting it, so I would imagine it would be out fairly quickly as soon as 2.2 source is available. As for the support from the dev community there has been a small but VERY dedicated group that have ported voodoo and been releasing kernels specifically jt1134, andrynalne, and dirrk. Apologies to those I left out! Also birdman jumped from the dx to the fascinate so that only increases support.

I personally believe going forward that Samsung may be the way to go, given motorola is dead to me, and its unclear whats htc position is in regards to locking down devices. The hummingbird processor has so much potential and even htc new generation of snapdragon is at best a match for it.

I'm bidding on ebay right now....I feel so dirty.

So ex X'ers how do you feel about the phone itself vs the X ?.

So you are switching too, awesome! My Fascinate should be here today, I will have to send out my X sometime this week back to them, they might have hooked me up. I completely agree with you about having some stickies, but I think once a few more things are released it will happen. From what I have read Voodoo is pretty much the best out right now, so I think a little more time and we should be seeing so more stuff.

Piiman you too? I didn't think you were going to switch, it would be kind of funny to see everyone start jumping over. I will let you know what I think about it after I get it today, it is in transit from Indianapolis FedEx which is about 5 - 10 miles away from the Plainfield one, so it shouldn't be too long before I have mine and start slacking off the rest of the day.

Man first all production from me goes down hill on Friday(blame angry birds), then if I get my Fascinate today, I will be completely worthless. Hope no one has any problems to be fixed.

Well I do love to tinker around and so far the X has been the best gadget I ever bought. :D but for a tinker it does have a MAJOR weakness.

I'm thinking of buying a SF and looking at it side by side with my X then I'll sell one.

When you get your I'd be interested in Call quality, reception and what you think of the smaller screen.

This forum is starting to look the the X forum user wise.

Im really glad I made the switch. I will say in general the x was better as a "phone" in signal strength and call quality, but the call quality in general is fine on my sf. I know some people have had 3g issues, but I haven't personally. Wifi is so much better for me than on the dx and my inc.

I loved the size/feel of my x, but now honestly I prefer the fascinate. The screen "seems" bigger to me actually, don't know why. Even though its only 4 inches the screen seems as big or bigger than the x and a million times bigger than my inc. The build quality and durability was better on the x, but I keep my phones in cases anyway so I don't notice it in my hand.

It seems to be a split amongst many, but I for one really disliked physical buttons on the x. I always had to use my other hand to press them or it felt like the phone would slip out of my hand. Now that I've had a few days to get used to it I also really like the power button on the right side of the phone and the usb jack up top. I hold the phone in my left hand generally and when I pull it out of the pocket its easy to hit the power button. And using the phone in portrait as much as I do, the usb up top is more convenient to me.

You can nuke Bing completely after installing Launcher Pro and root (don't think you can in touch wiz). I'm not sure the stock browser can get around Bing but certainly Dolphin or xScope can. There is a "CM style" ROM at XDA but its still very beta. Looks nice.

Voodoo and OC are the big things for now, as mentioned.

I may also just get a Droid Incredible again and do like you did. (use my X as a paper weight and a second phone)

yeah my original intention after getting into android after my x for over a month and wanting to tinker was just to pick up an og droid or incredible on ebay after selling off a few things like my old xbox 360 and bb tour; my x would still be my primary phone and the other would just be for fun. within an hour or two of having my incredible i packaged up my x and knew id most likely not be using it again unless i bricked my incredible.

when the cracking the bootloader seemed like a real possibility for a day or two on the dx/d2, i busted it back out and was pumped. i love my incredible but i wanted a bigger screen again after getting used to the dx. as soon as birdman and neoled declared development dead, i figured i might as well sell my x now while i could still get something for it (seems like i was far from alone in that regard).

originally i was kinda anti-samsung. with all the critique of the lack of support for their phones (and my own problems with them in the past with other electronics) i thought id never get one; my first impression of it wasnt great either while playing around with a non-rooted one. once i read what the phone was capable of, i decided to pick it up and have not regretted it.

now, my inc has gone back to what i thought it would be originally: a backup phone. ill probably switch back and forth occasionally but the sf is now my primary phone. if i hadnt sold my x, theres a good chance id never have used it again or just pulled it out infrequently to load a new theme or two.

This is our kinda one sticky find all thread. There's plenty of ROM's, OC Kernels and theme/app packages. Almost everything is in one of those links

Yup and on that note for all you x-DX'ers the birdman is now working for us [SF]:D.
Its true the DX out of the box attractive and I was all ready set to get it. But since it literally uncrackable I decided to wait for the SF and Im glad I did. Most of us here do take things to the next level and for that the DX is too gimped.

Alright now that everyone has been talking behind my back all day...saps, Piiman and jreed, I am reporting you to get banned:p

Anyways, I will be working on a sticky, and talking to frisco.

Also I am really liking what I am seeing, with all these ex X'ers coming over. We are starting to get a nice group going:D

BTW I am working on fixing nextheme with the themed system apps

I'll keep my X I guess.

The biggest reason I decided to stay put? The signal strength. Samsung has never been a superstar in that respect and nothing I've read about the SF says that it will be any different, in fact it seems worse. I had an Eris and it was the absolute worst PHONE. The OS was fine and I even got decent battery life with me, but the call quality and dropped calls with that phone were ridiculous. I just can't go with something that would even be half as bad. The X has great signal and outstanding call quality. For all the modding and hacking I want to do, I still need to use it as a phone. Also the fact that its still on 2.1. I don't think I could go back to 2.1 with the new gmail (which I LOVE) and voice search.
