Root New to Ally

My friend is coming over tomorrow and I told him that I could supercharge his Ally for him. I read how to root the ally from the 1st or second post (p.s I'm a DX owner, that is rooted and running Fission ROM, so I'm familiar with flashing a terminology). A few questions?

1.) Can I use the "Super 1click root found here to root the ally?
Found here: SuperOneClick Roots Virtually Every Android Phone Out There

2.) Where can I get the "custom recovery" that is listed as the 1st step in the ally rom threads?

3.) I don't know about flashing Kernels (DX has locked bootloader, so we only have ROMs) Is this the best one for the ally? and does it come with the "Velocity" ROM in that zip?---> http://androidforums.com/ally-all-things-root/180796-gnm_turbo-jit-oc-8-mflops.html

I just don't want to screw his phone up right infront of him. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Tips and hints and what I should actually do for him. I kinda know what I'm doing, but with an Ally I kinda don't, so I'm just asking for a little guidance.

Thanks Guys, love this Forum because everyone is so helpful.

OK... so the stickied post answered a lot of my questions. Only other one I really have is that once I flash Velocity through ROM manager I want to put the http://androidforums.com/ally-all-things-root/180796-gnm_turbo-jit-oc-8-mflops.html GNM_Turbo4.zip kernel on his phone. Can I do this after flashing the Velocity ROM or do I need to do it before... I don't want to overwrite anything. Again, new to flashing Kernels... and I also know that when you flash a new Kernel to an Incredible you have to flash the radio too? Is it the same with an Ally or does that .zip already have the radio inside of it?

Another question... he just got it, I know with the DX we got an update already for it and if you try to flash stuff designed for the 2.1 system over the 2.2 (OTA update) you will brick the phone. Didn't know if the Ally you get in stores now are "updated" or if they are the same if you got one months ago?

Thanks again guys.

Look in the velocity v0.3 thread. If your going to use velocity v0.3 you will need a modified version of the turbo4 kernel. And yes flash the kernel after you flash velocity.

With the ally's custom recoveries. If you get an OTA. It will boot into the recovery and get a validation error and it won't install. Just reboot after that and your good.

If your friend has SW version VS740ZVB then he's up to date.

Like on my DX is there "Bootstrap Recovery" in market for the Ally, or do I need to download it somewhere and put it on the phone?

Nope just go into rom mangers settings. Scroll down ti'll you see a item "Erase Recovery" and check it. Then flash clockwork recovery. That "should" keep clockwork from randomly flashing back to stock recovery.
