Do you ask for collateral before letting people use your phone?

because I do. So far about 3 strangers asked me to borrow my phone to make a quick call. I dont use a case on my Inc and I know that it only takes one drop to shatter the screen so I ask them for collateral. As you may have guessed nobody puts anything up. Im not the one being a dick IMO. If a stranger borrows your phone and drops it shattering the screen they probably say "oops sorry" and walk away.

Why in the world would you "ask for collateral"? If a stranger ever asked me to use my phone, I'd just say NO. I wouldn't even take the risk, for all I know they are going to run off with it.

Now if it were clearly an emergency (missing child, someone hurt, so on) then I'd either make a call for them or allow them to use it. My inanimate object is not more important than a humans life...

and if they gave you their TAG and the dropped the phone would you seriously keep their watch?
TAG? I think the word you were looking for was identification. Anyway, yes I would keep the watch if that is what they gave me. If they have a problem with it they can try to get the watch back but they would be put down to the ground....

First... HAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!

Second... you really think you can explain your way out of that one to the cops? "Sorry officer, I only kicked his ass because he was trying to take back the watch I stole from him!"

Just don't let strangers borrow your phone. Plain and simple. All you gotta do is say a polite "sorry, no". Why would you act like a smart ass just to make a point? No one is going to hand over anything valuable in order to make a 2 minute phone call, so why would you even ask?
