Help Will the unlocked HTC Desire HD work in India?

Hi,

I need to know if the HTC Desire HD will work in India. I even contacted HTC's support in India and they said they were not sure about it as they had no information about the phone. Thanks for your replies in advance.

Assuming India is still part of Asia, I see no reason why it shouldn't be released over there :)

  • HSPA/WCDMA: 900/2100 MHz
  • GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
This will work in India as most of the providers run on 900 MHZ including Airtel.
You have to unlock the phone for that.

Sorted then :)

Well, I will get he unlocked or the SIM FREE version as they say from UK.. i guess that should suffice shouldn't it???? Or do i need any other unlock codes for it????

And as far releasing in India is concerned even d desire took about 6 months to come here.. dunno how long the Desire HD will take.. and i'm kinda eager to grab the fone :)

Sim Free/Unlocked is fine.

If its a branded/locked to network handset, then in that case you will need to get unlock codes.

Is there no way you can import it?

EDIT Updated official thread for Pricing on India :)

  • Import
  • Buy from high street
  • Ebay and then use Escro Payment
  • Just buy it contract
  • Go on holiday to a country that is certain to sell it and buy it there :)

dnt wanna buy it on contract... the unlockin will b another pain...

HTC has announced that the Desire HD releases all over Asia.
In India, it will be released through Vodafone, which means we can get the unlocked versions also.
Just the way the Desire is released with TATA DOCOMO......

I know... A number of articles have been statin dat Vodafone will b releasin DHD dis November in India and Australia... Still the Indian HTC site shows no signs of it whereas the Aussie site states DHD comin soon on Vodafone...

I'm gettin reli impatient tho.. bt guess the sensible thng wd b waitin atleast till mid november for an official announcement...
I dnt care if the device is tied to Vodafone as long as it comes to India...

When the Desire launched, the HTC India website got updated 7 days after......
so,going by HTC india we'll have to wait longer..........
Expecting HTC to launch it in Mid November and not like the Desire launch 6 months after world was using it.........

If you are from Bangalore ie Karnataka state, Vodafone has no 3G service...only airtel, aircel and docomo for Karnataka......

if you buy from clove, will it be covered under warranty and will the htc india service center accept it if there is any problem ?

I am planning to wait till it officially launched in india...but vodafone or htc should say some words any tentative date at least for india launch

I have spoken to clove about they same...

If the device is available and there are no pending orders for delivery they offer Royal Mail International Signed For Delivery for

hmm good to know that you have done many inquiry about the DHD, its not even available in grey market may be bcoz its out of stock in most of the place where its even officially launched, I remember the original desire was available freely in grey market in india...

but the sadest part is HTC is not even speaking any word about its launch in india, they are doing almost everywhere in asia but no word or any updates for india, why are they ignoring india, this is the best time to launch any product in india as its festive season they sure gonna sell more even compared to UK...horrible with this company

thats why every retailer go for samsung as they come to india first...

well like you said we have to be patient and wait....

agreed...
with the festive season gone HTC will loose many potential customers..
Blackberry, Nokia, LG every1 launched so many handsets and they are disappearin from the store shelves by the minute...

Personally i'm nt a gr8 fan of Samsung Android devices.. dnt like d galaxy S and the xperia x10 still runs on 1.6 Eclair (what a shame for such an expensive deivce i would say)... the 2.1 will be available for it soon.. but when u pay so much u would atleast xpect the 2.1 pre loaded and not havin to update urself...

HTC is the best bet worldwide for android devices... but their marketing and research team is full of dimwits i would say :p
hope they come to their senses and realize that India is a huge potential market and its just their loss ignoring it like that..

I too have a galaxy s, samsung hardware is gr8 but their software is pathetic, still they cannot update their flagship model to froyo...their phone lags a lots, we have to install 3rd party launchers etc to make the phone look and feels good...the best part of htc is their software, their sense brings in lots of functionality and makes them very simple, but yeah you are right their marketing team seems to horrible, even during the priginal desire time, lots of their potential customers bought the galaxy s as it was available before desire, I am also one of those customers :)

sony android phones I personally feel does not come at par with htc or samsung ... and nokia is the most terrible brand as of today, their N8 latest flagship looks and feels like 20 yrs old ... I used it for few days and it comes no way near to samsung or htc

I also tweeted @VodafoneIN and this is their response "We do not have any updates on that as of now. Keep watching our website for latest info." so no clue as of now about DHD in india

the N8 has gr8 hardware i have no doubt abt it... bt as soon as i open the menu and see the age old symbian menu... i feel like throwin it away in the dustbin :p

neways HTC is d best bet nw as i am of the iphone sux class of people :)

i keep following androidos.in they usually have all the latest info for android related stuff..
