Help 4G Hotspot Speeds...kinda slow!

Hey all,

Today, i set my Epic to 4G Hotspot activation. Then, i setup my Apple Itouch to connect WiFi with my Epic. I ran Speedtest.net app on my Itouch. This is with my Epic connected to 4G.

Apple Ipod Touch 64 gb: (in kbps)
DL UL
255 871
341 899
263 892
225 880

Are these good speeds Hotspot? It seems like DownLoad is kinda slow, although UpLoad speed seems good.

With the same tower and still connected with my Itouch (but Itouch not running any program), my Epic got:

DL UL
5818 1104

This is the typical speeds that i get with 4G connection with my Epic.

What do you guys think? Is my Hotspot speeds OK?

Thanks in advance.

Actually your speeds are very good. If I can get about 200kbps DL consistently on my Sprint 4G, I'll be more than happy. In New York it averages between 10-50kbps. My numbers are based on average of what I get on my train commute of 30 miles from New Jersey to New York and based on taking more than 50 sample tests over a period of one month (mostly during rush hours 8 am-10 am and 4 pm-7pm). By same comparison Verizon MiFi was way faster. Unfortunately, I sacrificed it for Sprint 4G hotspot.
To get a 4G signal in any Manhattan building, including Sprint stores is nigh impossible, so 4G is almost useless, unless you are outside or an homeless person,

Just realized it for myself tonight, actually. My 3G download tested around 1.5mbps. In the same area, a moment later (with hotspot activated) the wifi speed on my connected iPad was about 0.33. I was hoping I could cancel my AT&T monthly data plan, but I guess not. Odd because I seemingly had success before, but had never actually run Speed Test.

And apparently this isn't the case on other android phones, like the Evo. :(

Not true. In my office in Battery Park, I'm able to get 4G half the time, and was able most of the time during Sprint's early testing period. My friend who owns an Epic and can't get in-building 4G joked that Sprint was having me irradiated as, "you know, something to do."

4G service in buildings can be annoyingly unavailable depending on where you are in NYC. But it isn't completely unavailable and I suspect it will become a lot more available in mid-to-late November. It was launched officially today, so they now have less wiggle room.

This is exactly what happened with 3G on Sprint, BTW. The Epic has a lot of other issues, but this part's going to get better.

I have noticed this same phenomenon. Running speedtest independently on the Epic and an iPad connected via hotspot I have noticed that with the 4G turned on the hotspot will never allow the iPad speeds over 0.4. This is the consistent result even when the Epic itself is registering advertised 4G speeds of 2.0 Mbps +. I have yet to try the hotspot on another device such as a laptop, but I am perplexed as to why this is occurring. Just likenyou stated when you turn the 4G off you get topline 3G speeds which is usually above 1mbps.
