I need a real backup app!

When I had a Palm Tungsten C and the TX, whenever something went wrong, I had Resco Backup to the rescue-easy to use and backed up everything!

I recently switched from Windows Mobile 6.1 (Touch Pro2) to the EVO. With Winmo i had Sprite Backup. Since with Winmo- I loved to tweaked my phone, I never had to worry if I ever pushed it to max- which I did- to crash it. No worries, I just boot up a saved backup file on my SD card and everything came back to the way it was when I backed it up. It was bulletproof...figuratively speaking.

Now with Android, I am very disappointed. First, I went with Sprite Backup and let me tell you- it does not work. I did a complete backup when I got my phone. When an app changed some settings that screwed up my internet settings, I did a restore. To my surprised, it really didn't do much. I think the only backup it did was of my contacts. My internet settings were still jacked. Never had this issue with my Touch Pro 2.

I also tried, Titanium Backup and MyBackup Pro.

What I am looking for is a backup application that really works. That I can make a backup with ONE touch (like on my Palm and Winmo) and recover with one touch as well. An app that backups everything; settings, my apps, wallpapers, contacts...etc. Where I don't have to do one at a time.

Can anyone give me any recommendations or maybe I am doing it wrong?

Well...titanium requires root. Are you rooted? If yes then nandroid in your recovery menu is your answer.

Android is pretty robust so you shouldn't have to recover from back up often, if at all.

That said, if you're not rooted, you can use Astro File Manager to back up your apps. SMS backup to back up your SMS.

Gmail already syncs your calendar / contacts so that's taken care of.

You can do a factory restore and then use these tools to restore you data / apps.

If you want a one button back up, then root, and use Titanium backup for your apps / data, or nand backup for the entire schbang.

Just do a nandroid backup, that will be the most comprehensive backup you can do.

That only backs up the apk file, not any settings or saved games you have inside those apps. And it wont backup paid apps.

And yes, like others have said, if you root, you can do a nandroid backup, which backs up everything like Sprite does for WinMo. Or Titanium will do the same thing.

Both Titanium and My Backup Pro backup all your settings if you're rooted. If you're not rooted, My Backup Pro still backs up all your settings and all your apps and settings for those apps. The only thing it doesn't back up if you're not rooted is the market link.

Thank you for all your suggestions. I guess there isn't a one touch backup everything application yet. I want a backup app where you press one button to backup everything; contacts, calendar, setting, tweaks, apps, wallpapers, pictures. I have used Titanium- but that, to my understanding, just backups your apps. What about the settings? I should also point out that my phone (being a Sprint phone) is flashed onto Metro PCS. So doing a factory reset, I will have to set up my internet again, manually. With my Touch Pro 2 (Windows Mobile) on metro pcs, my backup app (Sprite) would restore everything including the metro pcs settings. Just one press to backup and one press to restore- everything. Simple.

By the way, my phone is rooted.

The reason I need a one all backup application is cause I am a tweak and app junkie. I hate that I would have to use more than one application to backup certain settings, apps on this phone.

I hope Sprite Backup would fix their backup application.

I also have the paid version. So I gave it a try, since you suggested, I put Titanium's widget on my screen. I tap on the widget which said, "Verify all Applications." Then all it showed was "Batch verification started...then finished. Appeared it only backup my apps. Now the widget on my screen still says "Verify all backups." I pressed it and it was verifying that it was restoring my backup... which only restored my apps. I need something to backup the whole system. Like a recovery CD for a laptop. Which restores everything back to the way you bought it, as for me, the day I backed it up.

• All the data and settings of these applications,
• Most (or all) of your phone's settings and data.
• NOTE: It will not backup the system applications from your ROM. Only their settings will be backed up.

I got give it to the feature "freezing" of applications...cool.

That's because you have the widget set to verify your backups, not backup everything. It's not going to restore your backup. It's not going to backup anything. It's just going to verify your backups.

I'm a fellow former Palm user. I use Titanium Backup. I'm rooted (actually TB is the reason I rooted).

TB backs up everything. User apps, app data, system data, settings, etc. Not only can it be "one touch", but it can be "zero touch"... as I have mine scheduled to do full backups every night. The backups are put onto my MicroSD card for safety. I can also copy them off to a PC or other separate location.

Get the donate version. Best $4 you'll ever spend on your device.

I have caution about Nandroid backup... to use it, you need to install a non-stock/hacked boot loader onto your phone. And despite me asking around, it would seem there's no simple way to get the stock boot loader back should you have issues. Granted maybe you will never have a problem but irreversible hacks don't ride well with me. But yes, Nandroid is the closest thing to a Ghost/image type utility there is.

Nandroid has it's place for sure, but I wouldn't recommend someone making Nandroid backups every day though as a backup solution.

Not true. My Backup Pro is an excellent backup program for a non-rooted phone. I've used it more than once to restore my phone before I finally rooted.

If you're rooted, I think Titanium is better overall. If you're not rooted My Backup Pro is the best. The main advantage it has is that it can backup/restore to the cloud. My main gripe with it is that you can't set multiple schedules. Not sure why that is.

as has been mentioned, the market syncs with your account (your paid apps aren't going anywhere), so unless you're worried about saving your 1000 page text history with your gf and whatnot, you don't *need* to backup anything, its all still there (contacts, etc). in froyo I believe it will even automatically redownload all your previous apps for you.

some sort of built in cloud sync would be nice though. also, TiB does dropbox syncing now.

I'm with this guy. After spending so much time customizing my phone I really want to find something that backs up all of my app settings. Contacts, calendar, etc get automatically populated with my gmail account so that's less of an issue and my music is on my SD card.

So is My Backup Pro the best thing for this, a non-rooted phone.

I have to say after downloading and trying Mybackup Pro it took all of 5 minutes to realize that it is not a real backup solution. It simply amazes me that there is not a robust backup solution for Android out there without rooting the phone.

The idea of backing up to the SD card is a joke since the purpose of having a backup (at least for me) is if I lose or damage my phone. How is an SD backup going to help me with that?

My beef with Mybackup Pro? I download it and back up my phone settings to the cloud. Great, no problem. Then I go to back up my apps, where I have spent a lot of time tweaking the settings just right and I'm told that I can't back up more than 50MB of stuff to Mybackup's cloud. Dumb.

There has to be some solution to backup the Android. Any programs out there that you can download to your Mac/PC to back the thing up similar to the way iTunes does it?
