Ok guys, I apologize if this question has been asked 1000 times, but I can't really find the answer I'm looking for, and searching the forums has brought up too many inaccurate results....

As I understand it, Bing will forever be unremovable from the Fascinate without rooting the phone, which I currently do not want to do. I have already set Dolphin to be my default browser, and Bing right now is little more than an unused app in my app menu, as well as a Bing Search when I hit the search button on the phone.

My question is with the upcoming update, we will get Google functionality, correct? What exactly does that entail, just being able to download the Google app from the marketplace and add a searchbar? With the next update, will we be able to set the search button on the bottom right of the phone to do Google search? I believe I've read mixed answers in postings/articles on this from various places, so I'm kind of confused.

I'm not familiar with Launcher Pro, though I've seen it mentioned in passing here. Is it an app, or is it something you need to deal with on your computer? For the record, I'm running Mac OS X Leopard on a PPC G5 iSight.

Can someone walk me through the steps to setting the search button to search with Google?

Launcher Pro is an app you can download from the market. It's a launcher, basically the backbone of your homescreens and app drawer. It scrolls smoother than the stock TouchWiz, and it's got more options and potential. Out of the box though it might not be as pretty. You don't get the side-scroll iPhone-ish app menu like TouchWiz.

Sorry, I hadn't clicked the above link, thank you for that.

Can someone still give me some insight into what the general idea is with Launcher Pro?
NOSquid gave you some good basics. To expand, you get the same option for 7 homescreens. You get a dock which gives you 5 icons per page and you get 3 scrollable pages which you can access from any of your 7 homescreens [BTW you dont have to have 7 if you want less you can pick less]. Yeah app drawer is super smooth and quick and can be 3D if you want it. Also home screens dont have to just by 4x4 for app display I have mine as 4x5 and if you choose to hide text labels which you can 5x6 is actually quite do-able. It really is the homescreen of choice for more than half of us here on the SF.

And as aforementioned if you dont go the root route you can at least hide apps you never use. You get to configure scrolling speeds too. And if you get LP+ there are some decent widgets which you can re-size. Im probably leaving a lot out too. Its definitely worth a gander

Thanks for the help. I may either root or go the Launcher Pro route sometime soon, but maybe not. I'm currently happy with TouchWiz and the whole UI and don't really want any weird inconsistencies popping up anywhere as right now I have no complaints or hiccups with the phone's functionality; as for rooting, I at the very least want to get the 2.2 update before I go that route.

So, I've heard a lot of stuff about Google functionality being "restored" with the 2.2 update. Any clue what that entails? Is it merely being able to download the Google Search app from the marketplace? If it has to do with the search button functionality, I most certainly can wait it out.
