Help UK SGS - Anyone on Virgin? I want to return my phone.

Hi there,

I'm interested to know if there are any other fellow SGS owners on Virgin out there? I'm being a little pre-emptive (I haven't managed to get it on there yet) but basically I had been holding out for Froyo to see if Samsung would fix the GPS issues, unfortunately initial reports are poor and sounds like they have failed to fix it.

GPS in it's current state is categorically defective, I cannot rely on it as a GPS device either on foot or in the car. As such I intend to press my consumer rights and return the device as defective. The issue is is that I just checked and they no longer appear to stock the SGS and there is no other feature-for-feature phone that is even slightly close to it.

If I have to I will press to cancel my contract, I'm just wondering if anyone has an experience of Virgin mobile return department?

It really is such a shame as I for the most part actually like the SGS, as a piece of hardware it's pretty damn ace (apart from a potentially dumb location for the GPS receiver). The only bit that is bad about it is ALL the Samsung software. I see absolute no benefit they have added over stock, literally no app they altered or replaced is better in anyway than the stock equivalent. I just can't fathom why they would meddle to such an extent and then compound it by utterly failing to do ANY real-world QA.

If I can achieve a return it will be a very long time before I return to a Samsung Android handset.

Yakboy - really, really misses his Nexus one :(

Hi yakboy

I'm going to try to return my phone based on the GPS issue and general poor software design. Well what can I say, the GPS is faulty! I live in Edinburgh and it tells me I'm at Luton airport! Ah the list goes on and Samsung have done nothing about it. Poor software design, little to no communication and bad customer service.I will never buy another Samsung product again. It's fair to say not only is the phone faulty but the company is as well......
Anyway that's my angle with virgin but I'm going to hang onto it till I can swap with a reasonable phone I.e. HTC Desire HD

Hi big_mike

No. I have a lot of products with them so I hope this will add to the argument. To be honest it's the GPS issues that gets to me and if it was fixed, I would keep the phone. My understanding is if you have a faulty product you can exchange or replace with another. It's a tricky one and I'll most likely look up my consumer rights before the call.
