Speed Test Results

3G upload speeds are capped at 150k average (it will spike but will drop back to 150k). This is the "Premium" data plan. When you pay your bill, remember to bend over and say, "thank you sir, may I have another". BTW, a less well known treat is that download speeds are about (on average) half that of any other Sprint 3G phone in the exact same location at the exact same time (I've tested five of my own.)

OP lives in a 4G city, so he probably doesnt't care about a 3G upload cap. As far as 3G download speeds, I ran two tests with the Speedtest.net app with 3 bars of signal and got about 1300k both times.

I too live in a 4G city (Austin, TX) and 4G SUCKS.

If I stand outside the front door to my house I get near full 4G signal. If I walk in the front door (25% of it is a glass window) and the bars drop to 1, and if I wank 15 feet into the house (open great room with windows on all sides) and the signal is gone.

Standing outside my office I get 2/3rd signal. Inside my office (with a window) I get intermittent signal (unreliable).

If I'm moving (on train, bus or being driven), it seems that 4G is less flexible handing off from tower to tower and maintaining consistent connection. It will drop the connection and pick it back up. This is a pain if you are streaming audio or video.

4G (Sprint WiMax) is VERY line of sight limited. If I'm standing outside the UT football stadium I get 50% to 2/3rd signal. At my seat on the lower level of the outdoor football stadium I get no signal.

4G is not a replacement for 3G, it is a special situation use case.

those are 3G tests...you have to test it when 4G is connected....it will say at the top of the screen "connected to 4G" and the 4G bars will turn yellow.
2nd pic is pretty good for 3G tho.

Right now my 4g speeds seem to be better than ever! I'm seeing constant and consistent 7Mbps speeds! Web pages are loading up about as fast as a desktop. I'm doing all this right from my own room (i get 2-3 bars in my room). I honestly can't use 3g anymore cause it feels so slow. I get 4g in most places I go as well.

Battery life isn't too bad either with 4g left on all day. I lasted 13hrs and 10 minutes yesterday on a 91% charge. On screen usage time was 4hrs and 15 minutes. Today was 11hrs and 45 minutes on a 100% charge with 3 hours and 16 minutes of on screen time. I had my brightness set to 0 yesterday which probably helped out. Also, I have a spare battery when I am low :)

I don't think 4g is official in Orange County (CA), but here in Costa Mesa (like someone else had mentinoed) I seem to get 4g signals. It's a little spotty deep in the center of the house, but oddly enough, I get my best speeds while in a bathroom without having full bars. Makes me wish I had been outside.

Sorry, had to use my webcam to take the pics.
