hello friend, Raj here.

I have been using the X10i since past 6 months. I bought the phone my UAE & i am presently using it in India.

1) Is there any firmware upgrade available for my phone?

My phone info says-
Model - X10i
Firmware - 1.6
Baseband version - 1.0.14
Build number - R1FA014

2) My phone does not have the Android market application inbuilt in it! how & from where do i download that app?

3) How do i install applications downloaded to my computer from Android market, to my phone?

4) I am not able to access Calender since it requires me to log in to my Gmail account. everytime i try to do that, it says "error, try next time"! is there any way i can start the calender without registering?

Thanks.

Not sure on the current market you're in but i would assume there is an update - try connecting to Sony Ericsson Update Service via PC (full instructions in program)

As for no market - this is something i've seen as ALL android phones in UAE have no Market installed, due to Google not having necessary regulations in place, until this is sorted out or you are able to update with another market ROM i would imagine there's no way to install it

For other downloaded apps the usual process would be to see if you can enable OTHER SOURCES
press in sequence - MENU > SETTINGS > APPLICATIONS > UNKNOWN SOURCES (this should be ticked)

Then you would need to load the apps onto the memory card and then use a file browser (however as you have NO market access its a mystery how to get the file browser loaded)

i would imagine you have to register as google calendar is web based

I'm sure if any of this is wrong it will get corrected

Following MrWombles post....

He mentioned that without the market you cannot download the file manager, but....if you download the apk for a file manager (such as ASTRO) to your computer, then upload it to a 'direct link' server (such as ftp), then you can go to the link on your phone and install the file manager. From there you can load downloaded apps

About not having the market...try this http://slideme.org/sam

Guys, i managed to install Astro File Manager over the air! i did install a few apps to my comp & then to my phone using AFM but not all apps are available to install on the comp! thats the reason i needed Android Market on my phone.

Also, i dont understand why i cant register to google through my phone as i have to use the phone calender.

Also, i dont understand why i cant register to google through my phone as i have to use the phone calender.

As i said in my above post

GOOGLE don't have the necessary regulations in place in the UAE to enable them to activate all functions on the phone

As your phone was bought in the UAE it falls under the laws and jurisdiction of the UAE

i suspect the only way to get round this fully would be to debrand the phone - but that is a subject i cannot help with

Until google get the necessary regulations and permissions you will not be able to get the market or use the calendar

UAE - the land of riches - but poor phones

Can you not do the full root method on XDA forums and this will flash a generic X10i rom to your phone and then give you the latest build number ****26.

In doing this it should give you the "Market" app and give you a generic unbranded phone, but... Ask on XDA first as I have no idea if it will stop your phone working when you get back to the UAE???

Guys, I stay in India & wont use the phone in UAE, so it doesnt matter if the phone works in UAE or not.

I tried de-branding the phone by the method explained in XDA, but it dint work.

Secondly, i used to access calender & facebook in INDIA before, with my earlier MTNL SIM but i think when i changed to Vodafone SIM, all my registrations were cleared & now i am not able to re-register to google & facebook. Can that be a SIM card issue?

Vodafone was unable to provide me with "Internet settings" for my X10, so i used the same settings from my previous MTNL with a few changes & surprisingly, it started working! Can that be a reason?

Guys, I stay in India & wont use the phone in UAE, so it doesnt matter if the phone works in UAE or not.

It does matter - the Phone will always be registered to the UAE, in the same way that if you buy an electrical item from the UK it will always have a UK warranty, the phone you bought from UAE will always be controlled by software designed for the UAE

Unless you unbrand

I tried de-branding the phone by the method explained in XDA, but it dint work.?

Do you mean the UNBRANDING didn't work, or that the phone is now UNBRANDED and you still have the same problem ??

if the unbranding has worked, have you used the SEUS to flash the latest software to your phone ?
