Hello everyone, i have a couple questions i was wondering could get answered by people with knowledge on the subject. I am pretty new to all this root and flashing scene with these android phones.

so here goes.

About a month [or so] ago i rooted my phone from stock 2.2 i had to downgrade to 2.1 -> root -> back to 2.2. since then i have been enjoying the pleasure of running apps like wifi tether adfree and so on. well i recently found out that because my phone was rooted ( i am still running stock rom) that i cant update the pri and the kernal ( again i don't really know what this stuff really is, i just know it can help performance and battery wise).

so
1. i was wondering if i can flash custom kernels onto the stock rom.
2. are there any things i can flash onto my rooted stock rom to help with battery life or anything else?

i currently have
pri version 1.40_003
baseband 2.15.00.07.28
kernel 2.6.32.15-g746f4f0 htc-kernal@and18-2 #58
build number 3.26.651.6

thanks in advance, as all help will be greatly appreciated

a few things, xda has a post with the new pri, radios and nv. [ Radios ] All EVO Radio, WiMAX, PRI & NV versions - xda-developers

Second you should be able to update profile and prl. You can download the stock rooted 2.2 for the evo, and only wipe cache and dalvik and that may help fix some issues
HTC OTA Froyo 2.2, *FINAL*, build 3.26.651.6 (Rooted) Odexed - xda-developers

hope this helps

this would be the best way to try and retain all of your settings for sure.

otherwise you are rooted...you can use any rom and kernels you want! but will definitely loose your setting etc if you change to a differnt rom kernel
