Am I on the right track..?

Hi Everyone,

Really looking forward to getting my new Desire in the next few days but was hoping to get some advice and feedback on a few things/items i'm going to buy/need to know..

Any and all info is appreciated folks..

Transcend 16 GB Class 6 microSDHC Flash Memory Card with adapter TS16GUSDHC6

After reading a few things on Micro SD's and as I'm planning on putting a good few movies/ TV shows on my desire i've come to the conclusion that i'll need at least a class 6 card to ensure smooth playback. Although some people have said that Class 2 cards perform just fine..Unsure..

I'm also planning on getting Rockplayer as my movie player app as it looks to be the best one out there..I could be wrong about that..

CX 300-II, black

I've been meaning to upgrade my ipod standard phones to something a bit better but not spend a huge amount..these look to be the best at the right price..but let me know if there's anything better out there you've found..Planning on getting Mixzing as my music player app as it gets good reviews.

My phone should arrive today or tomorrow but I've been wondering if it will arrive with version 2.2 as standard, if it does (i think it will) will I be able to save my Apps to the memory card? I've read that the phones memory fills up fast and I'm keen to make as much use of the 16GB.

Any thing i should read up on or look at buying ,e.g. cases etc please chip in with some advice, also If anyone has any 'You can't live without' Apps that i should get then again feel free to let me know.

Thanks folks in advance,

JD

It will come with 2.2 on it, rockplayer is great, I love myplayer gives me access to all BBC I player and the much improved google shopper, now includes UK prices, and it really does recognise items by there covers etc.

Cannot comment on the cards as I do not really use mine as video player etc

Andrew

PS: I also find the headphones that came with it good enough, especially with the inline controls

Cheers Andrew,

BBC's Iplayer is great but I'm capped at 500meg per month, would using the I-Player eat into that allowance? In essence i'm planning on throwing movies and TV shows onto the SD card and keeping the monthly allowance for browsing and net use..

But, If the Iplayer is easy on the memory usage i'll happily use that and often.

iPlayer won't stream over 3G, I guess MyPlayer does though (don't use it)...

If you use myplayer it will quite happily stream over 3G,3G+ or H connections, I often watch a bit of live BBC News on the train, I too have 500mb of data and never get near to using it all, myplayer streams flawlessly over wifi, I don't think iplayer via the BBC streeams on 3G

Regards

Andrew

Thanks guys for backing up my decision on the earbuds, they've only just arrived now..time for the breaking in..

Just had another thought, I'm on an Orange contract and have decided to renew and upgrade via a third party company (phones 4 U) in order to avoid receiving an Orange branded phone. Can anyone confirm that Phones for U actually send out unbranded mobiles? I was assured by the rep on the other end of the phone that it was but i'm pretty sure he was really just trying to seal the sale.

Ugh, well hopefully someone will confirm either way, I hate to think i'm going to end up getting the phone with all the garbage Orange insists on filling up and slowing down the phone.

I'd just buy it at the cheapest source and not worry about it being loaded with crap. Then just root it and install your own choice of clean Rom ;)

Root and flashing with your own rom is ridiculously easy thanks to Clockwork Mod.

Well, after 25 minutes on the phone to Phones 4 U I can confirm that all HTC desire phones they deal with are in fact branded! Despite what i had been told. So much for their honest sale techniques

As far as rooting and installing a Rom...that my friend is way way too complicated for this fella to even attempt. No joke, I'd rather avoid the issue in the first place than have to deal with it.
No joke, I stumbled across 'rooting' and 'flashing' and installing Roms over the last few days and i understood not a jot.

In any case I'm back to square one with regards to getting a new desire, so i'm off to Carphone warehouse to see if they can offer the same deal as i had planned with Dodgy phones 4 u.

I know all CPW payg handsets are unbranded and unlocked (easier for them to only stock one of each handset that way) but don't know about contract phones I'm afraid.

iplayer does stream on HDPSA, maybe 3G as well (I watched a 30 minute program last night on H from iplayer, no problem.)

Rockplayer is great, another really good one still in alpha testing, but on the market is Vplayer, it will play .flv files as well as wmv and avi or mp4. the developer is making quick progress with it an keeps updating it with new features/bug fixes, and its free at the moment. (I donated
