Help Low in-call volume?

I bought my captivate 3 weeks ago from Amazon. It works well overall and I do enjoy a lot. Besides the GPS issue, low in-call volume bothers me all the time. Calls can only be heard clearly in a very quiet place, otherwise I need to keep saying sorry to people on the other end of line. I did search around the forum, no useful information on this subject can be found. So I am curious whether this issue only happens randomly on some handsets or it is a already solved issue which no one even bothers now?

Any input is appreciated. Many thanks!

For some reason (at least mine), the earpiece volume always resets to a low level even though I crank it on a call. So I have to crank the volume up every time on a new call.

On a side note, the system volume will reset to max volume every now and then even though I have it turned down.

Android and/or the Captivate is really buggy in day to day usage.

i have this exact same issue. when it occurs seems random. i've looked around for a solution, but this is the only thread i saw with anyone mentioning it.

i would assume that if this issue was widespread, there'd be more people talking about it, unless they're okay with this minor inconvenience.

is there any solution to this issue? it's something i can live with... but something i feel like i shouldn't live with.

Let me save you the call...

Samsung: Hello, this is Samsung support, may I help you?

You: Yes, I have low in-call volume.

Samsung: This is the first time I've heard of this. Have you used the volume switch on the side of the phone?

You: Yes, I have. Doesn't help.

Samsung: What did you eat for breakfast?

You: How does that matter?

Samsung: Sir, I need to document this for our records.

You: Corn flakes.

Samsung: Can you spell that, sir?

You: c-o-r-n f-l-a-k-e-s

Samsung: Thank you. One second, I'll need to check to see if any of my co-workers have heard of the problem you're experiencing.

(Music plays: National anthem of North Korea)

Samsung: Thank you for your patience. No one else has ever heard of this problem, either.

You: What should I do?

Samsung: I suggest you perform a factory reset of your device.

You hang up the phone, no better off than when you called, and rush off to post on this forum how useless Samsung support was.

(You can press the "Thanks" button now that I've saved you a half hour of frustration.)

This is my 1 Major Gripe.
It's HUGE.
However, some app volume is in the 100+db range so I know it's possible to achieve higher volumes.
What the work-a-round is to fix this issue, i can't say.
Some Developer somewhere out there should make this their number one mission.
I'll send $10 for the solution.
Instant millionaire to whoever solves this riddle.

Sure. It was set to the maximum by me from the very beginning.

No one else has similar experience?

You may want to periodically go into your Volume settings to see if they are set the way you want them.

In-call volume, ringer volume, media, navigation, and system volume are all different volume settings (not sure if you knew this or not, if yes, sorry to belabor the point).

Each can accidentally be set to something else, if you're not paying attention. When I was driving the other day, I wanted to turn up my Media volume and turn down my Navigation volume, but I kept only changing my Nav volume, as my navigation was the active app.

Having so many volumes is almost too confusing!

I've kind of solved this by getting Settings Profile and setting rules for activating profiles that control volume and screen lock depending on my location (e.g., at work, at home, in meeting, outside, or in my car).

Very useful program. Kind of like Phone Alarm Pro if you came from WinMo.

*bashes head against wall*
Are you people serious? "My volume is low" "Did you try volume controls?" You might as well have told them that a factory reset would fix their issue. If someone can find and sign up for androidforums, chances are they know how to use a volume control.

That being said, the volume is stupidly low for this phone. Captivate @ Max is about most phones near mid-range. It was by (poor) design, you could say. But Samsung would never admit that they cheaped out on sound and that's what's causing this issue. Not having HAC is embarassing.

Your only bet is to up the Equilizer settings.

Reread the post.

My implication was that while setting volume for one thing she may have accidentally did something else to another volume setting...without knowing...which is what "accidentally" means.

I wasn't replying to you. To be honest, I only made it half way through the thread before I gave up.

So that reply wasn't directed at you, else I probably would've quoted. So, you're right. You did say that, and you even accounted for people knowing where the controls are. So, yeah. Not directed at you. Sorry bout that.
