Help Favourite/Best Android games and apps?

If Angry Birds is the best game on Android then it really shows how poor phone games are. Is there really nothing that involves a little intelligence or depth? It's cutesy but even Lemmings from the early 90s (when I last played computer games) is 50x more involving. I guess it shows people these days are easily pleased.

Ok Hark why don't you use your mighty intellect to make a game we easily pleased morons can enjoy more.
Oh no you cant because you haven't played games for nearly 20 years making your opinion irrelevant.

Angry birds isn't the best game on android, it's the newest "big" game out and as ever it gets old pretty fast. I haven't had it a week and I'm pretty bored of it.
Alot of people like it, and it is an alright game to pass the time, but then alot of people think consoles are better than pcs for gaming which shows how much they know.

Actually he's got a point, Lemmings on the Amiga took more brain power, was more fun, and had more replay value than most games on the Android market, and at no point did he call anyone a moron. There's no need to throw your attitude around.

Back to the point:
I guess the most played games on my sgs are Fruit ninja, angry birds and Tetris and the most used apps are Lightning bug, Aldiko eBook and Astro file manager or Dropbox.

Wow, ok I'll go back to my retirement home. Kids these days, etc...

For those with a bit more a mature attitude I think it's a fair point that with the limited resources of handhelds 10-20 years ago they were making more complex games on the Gameboy, SNES, etc than they are on Android now. It's why so many people are using emulators on Android to play those classic games again. It just surprises me that games like that aren't being remade for modern smartphones utilising the power of new technology to make them even better.

Having a quick search I came across Zenonia (iPhone review - Zenonia iPhone Review - iPhone Review at IGN) that's out for Android now; which shows that slowly more involved games are being developed.

I'll happily play Angry Birds for a few minutes every now and again like everyone else, but I do hope that gaming on Android matures to the point where even might intellects like mine can be satisfied.

Agree with you about Angry Birds...
On the other hand there are some very involving games available on Android...perfect case in point being Cestos (the original Full version, not Cestos 2)...Excellent multiplayer game which is very simple on the graphics but requires a LOT of thinking and strategising...Give it a try, play on the minefield map against a good opponent and you will know...

Yes lemmings was a great game and he is entitled to think what he wants about Angry birds. His remark about people being easily pleased nowadays because they think differently than him was clearly insulting.

I wasn't trying to insult anyone. I'm really shocked that anybody was offended. People who play games on consoles (in the 90s and nowadays) want something submersive and they pay $10-20 upwards for the privilege. The phone market is mostly casual gaming, free and cheap games for people who're not interested in buying a console and just want something to kill a few minutes on a commute. That's not insulting, it's just a different demographic and as such, yes they are easily pleased with something simpler.

I'm just surprised that so few of the more detailed games I remember from my early gaming days haven't been either converted or copied yet for Android. Don't get me wrong, I've killed a few minutes with Angry Birds (and before that popular titles like Abduction, Trap & Rocket Defense) and while fun they leave me wanting a little more. As I said, I'd like to see something that reminds me of classic games like Lemmings and off the top of my head Rick Dangerous, Legend of Zelda, Bubble Bobble, Oids, Nebulus or Head Over Heels. While simple they had a level of depth the games on the Android market lack but which I think would work well on a touchscreen phone and I just expected to find games more like them by now being mentioned as favourites as opposed to something like Angry Birds which is little more than an "in game" bonus level in terms of complexity.

There's plenty of talented programmers out there making games, I wonder what stops them from making games like this? I guess it's economics, people won't pay more than $2 or $3 for a game and the extra time to make something more complicated would mean they'd have to charge $10 or more. So it's easier to crank out something simple and cheap than complex and prohibitively expensive.

You assume that because you feel that way everyone else does too. many people just want a bit of fun every now and then on phones or consoles and don't wish to (immerse) themselves in games. I probably sounded more annoyed than I actually am. And by the way I wont be seeing 50 again.
