Accessories 2-piece snap-on vs. silicon

Which offers better protection if you drop the phone? It seems that a 2-piece snap-on case could easily come apart and the phone would get damaged. Has anybody experienced this?

Also, has anybody ordered a case from Daydeal.com? They seem to have a big variety of cases but I can't find any reviews on them and the products I am looking at.

I am having a hard time finding a case that I like. I think the X is quite plain and could do with some dressing up, so I don't really want to go for a plain black silicon. On the other hand, I don't like the looks of the light/bright colored gels and rubbers. (No offense, but why would you dress your expensive phone in a cheap looking bright pink rubber jacket?) I had seen a case for the original Droid at a Verizon store in a dark maroon with a satin-metallic finish. It was probably a hard case snap-on. It's the first one I really liked, but I haven't seen one like that for the Droid X. There were some similar cases for the Droid 2, but not in exactly the same color.

The case you saw on the Droid at VZW is in fact available for the X. I know because I own one for the droid and for the X. I got it at a retailer here called Cellairis. Not sure if they are regional or national.

If you got the case for both your phones, you must like it. Is it one piece or two? Do you think it offers adequate protection? Apparently they have these retailers at malls around here, though I had never noticed this name before.

it is one piece and it has enough protection for my liking especially for the price.

the buttons are covered but the case has raised areas for those buttons and it does not hinder the function of them at all.

I went to a Cellairis kiosk in a mall nearby and found a case. They didn't have the maroon one that I was looking for, but they had a nice sapphire blue and an emerald green. I was torn between the two but ended up with the green, even though it is a little brighter than I wanted, because it's more unusual. When I went upstairs, there was another Cellairis kiosk that seemed to have a larger selection. Still no maroon. They had a dark red, which was close, but not the one I had seen for the Droid at the Verizon store. I decided to stay with the green. Do you have the maroon or dark red? (The maroon is slightly more purple but not purple.) I do like the way this thing fits. I suspect it would break apart if dropped though. However, I didn't like the plain silicon/rubber suits that they had.

Maybe after a little while I'll buy another outfit for it. I mean, a well-dressed Droid has to have more than one suit, doesn't it?

Same, I'm not fond of my 2 pc case, but it seems to protect fairly well...falling apart and all. It's a cheaper one, maybe that's why...but I can't see the high $ ones being much better. I can't wait for my Epik to get here...it's on the slow boat from China, maybe tomorrow?

I had a hard plastic 2 piece case from Amzer. It was thin which I liked, but the thinness made it feel cheap at the same time. I opted for a much more solid case from Verizon. Its the hard silicon 1 piece. I dont normally like silicon cases but this one felt enough like plastic and it makes the phone feel really solid (even if it does add a little more bulk than I prefer). I would definitely trust it to protect my phone in most normal situations.

That's good to know. But I don't plan on dropping it to check it out for myself!

I like my cheap TPU case I got on eBay for under $4 shipped. I returned the one I bought at Verizon for $15.

The TPU case is one piece and removes easily, which is good, because I use my X for GPS 2x per day.

It was dropped once and came apart slightly but not completely. Everything was okay.

I ended up exchanging the green case for a different one. The green was just too bright and reminded me of a christmas tree bulb. I wanted a darker or more neutral color like a dark silver but they didn't have one like that. In the end I went with a muted plaid which kind of looks like camouflage colors and blends in with its surroundings!

I'm attaching pictures -- sorry, they aren't very good but they will give you some idea.

I think it looks okay from the front and back. What I don't like is the seam on the sides - the pattern doesn't match!

That looks great! Aside from the graphic not lining up. That's pretty rudimentary stuff for the manufacturer to miss.

It could have been the vendor's fault - it wasn't in any proper packaging so who knows, could be from two different sets. The main thing is that it fits fine and looks okay - kind of unobtrusive.
