I have been carrying my droid in a hard plastic case, but doing this added extra bulk to the phone, plus the case made the phone hold heat. It was a nice case, but it needed to go, and I am now carrying naked. I love the natural feel of droid.

Also, regardless whag people say, the screen WILL scratch. I have a small scratch in the middle of mine. It doesn't affect anything though.

So, where is the question? :p

The Verizon guy sold me a case the day I bought my phone, but it quickly wore and became quite unattractive. He also sold me those screen protectors. After my first Droid bit the dust, I chose not to get a case for the new phone.

Over the past 5 months, I confess I've dropped it a few times. Having some sort of case would have been nice, but most of the Droid cases fly right off anyway and don't do a whole lot of protecting. The same can be said for the screen protector, which was just bubbly after a while.

I have a few dings and 2 minor scratches on my phone. It still looks pretty damn good, and it's way easier to transport without the bulky case.

Uh, ok. What's the point of this thread? Was there a question or discussion topic? Or was this a PSA to let people know that Gorilla Glass isn't unscratchable?

You do realize that you can use a screen protector without a case, right?

Well, I am a clumsy soul so I got a screen protector for my droid and, as for the back and sides, I decided to try a Zagg skin instead of a case. It won't protect it from breakage but it has kept it from getting scratched on the several times that I have tripped and fallen and my droid has flown out of my hands. Did I mention that I am clumsy?

Screen can scratch, but it's extremely difficult. Here's a list of the only substances that I know of that can scratch glass:

1. Broken glass
2. Sand
3. Ceramics
4. Diamonds

That's pretty much it.

Funny side note: My girlfriend bought an Evo from Sprint and they upsold her a case and a handful of screen protectors. The screen protector made the screen look like shit... super blurry. I told her she didn't need it because "it would take a diamond to scratch the screen". What I didn't take into account is the fact that she wears diamond earrings every day.... oops. She's got some tiny surface scratches on there now that don't affect use. She still didn't put a screen protector on though.

I'm shocked by how many folks don't use cases. I bought the otterbox commuter and, though it does make the phone more bulky, it doesn't make it much heavier in my opinion. I did like the feel of the device the 3 days I had it before putting the commuter on this past Monday (got the device on Friday, 29-Oct-10). Just took the commuter off and already enjoying the nude feel again.
