HD battery - Desire Battery ?

Can anyone tell me why the Desire has a 1400 mAh compared to the quoted 1230 mAh for Desire HD ???

Common Sense tells me that its gonna be less of a 'laster' ???

the new processor is more efficient - something like up to 20% more efficient.

I worry about the impact due to screen size. I would imagine HTC have learnt from the Desire tho - not to skimp on something that supports a powerful device!!!

The processor is more efficient yeah, but if you look at the specification they quote less standby and talk time for the Desire HD.

I really hope HTC have learnt something from the battery complaints for the Desire

I take that back - 3G talk time is down but 2G talk time is up, and standby time for both are up - looks like they have learnt something

Whatever it takes, in my opinion at least for marketing purposes a downsized battery is not pleasant for potential buyers.

Unfortunately I think the 20% extra improved efficiency is obviously marketing taking the very best scenario, we may see an improvement, but not that much.

Also the improvement in efficiency is more than likely mainly when the phone is idle. If you are actually doing something constantly like watching a film or playing games then I doubt we will see that efficiency.

Anyway I'm hopeful that we will at least see the same battery life in everday use as the desire with the efficiency improvements.

I've owned a Nokia 6120 Classic before and I know how to deal with a small battery size, so I have finally decided after the let down on the 15th of September that I can live with it if it turns out to be bad.

Get a desktop charger/holder which can charge spare batteries too.
Get some spare batteries, only for long trips with no access to charging.
Get a charger for work
Get a charger for the car.

You can get this all for pretty cheap from Hong Kong and you should have no worries, it worked for me and my old nokia with a crappy battery.

End of the day though, it depends on what the user will be doing.

You gonna have GPS on all day, 3G data, music playing, wireless on, etc..your battery will die in no time.

hey do you think that keeping the gps on standby (when you're not using it) drains the battery? I thought it was a simple on/off operation (because you can see whne the gps is acquiring signal).

Can't really say until someone gets hold of the model and tries it out.

so... the battery.... i've charged it and drained it a number of times. my opinion, so far, is that it's not particularly great. i've had iphone 4 and 3gs and it looks like my hd lasts less than both.
i charged twice yesterday (100 -> 10% both times).

how are the other owners here finding it?

(i have an exchange email account [push] on my phone which gets about 500 emails a day, but have done this on my previous iphones. also, the battery stats suggest that the screen is consuming 80% of my battery).

I'm not too sure on the actual longevity of it yet. I charge is overnight, in the car and then it's plugged in to my laptop at work.

However some simple steps should see some improvement:

- Turn off Auto-screen brightness, find the lowest level you can live with and stick to it.
- Turn off Bluetooth/GPS/WIFI unless you need it.
- Edit Sync frequency within Settings, do you really need Weather updates every hour?
- Turn off Live Wallpaper, and set a dark wallpaper.

Every little helps!

I thought dark images didn't require any less power on LCDs, just OLED type screens.

Correct, that is probably misplaced in this instance. The backlight on our phones aren't smart enough to disable for blacks, like on some LED TV's and Plasma technology.

That said, if you have a low screen brightness, having a black background helps you to see your apps more clearly... right? *Taxi*

Is it possible that someone, somewhere in near future, relases a battery with same physical dimensions than the original DHD battery, but way more bigger size, lets say (1500mAh) which would fit directly to HTC Desire HD ?

Looking at the design of the Desire HD, the battery dimensions would have to be the same...Super batteries tend to come make the back bigger (Ala PSP anyone?).

i'm more and more concerned about the short battery life. i charged it to 100% at 3pm yesterday, and by 1am, after average use and 50% screen brightness, it was on 10% and telling me to connect a charger.
it seems like, unless i'm running a scaled back service on my phone (no widgets, lowest screen setting etc), there's no way i can get a full day out of this thing. really disappointed.
anyone else in the same boat? any solutions?

i dont have an android phone so i can't tell you for sure but i highly doubt you need to set the time again. These are smartphones afterall

My hero doesn't, and I can't see my Desire HD being any different. Think of your phone having a mini CMOS battery like a comp that stores all your settings

Battery life is pretty terrible on this lol, thought my iPhone 3G was bad! Not sure what's caning it yet but I get probably 6/7hrs before it's telling me to charge.

In my battery stats it just says "Android OS" as being the culprit.
