Google TV and network streaming integration

I am curious to see how/if Google TV accesses shared media on a network. I have a media server in my office which allows me to stream all of my media content to all of the tv's in my home which are all hooked to media centers. Those who have Google TV and if this feature is available, mind posting a video on youtube? Thanks.

I do have a Logitech Revue, and am able to get to my music on my desktop computer through windows media player network sharing service. I haven't tried any video at this time but will soon just to see how it goes.

Thanks Andrew for your response. Would you mind sharing how you access the WMP network thru the UI of Google TV? Is it thru applications or another method? Does it look like a folder structure?

There is an app that you go through to get to the networked movies/music. It is searchable with the search bar which is very nice feature.

If I recall (i'm not at home at this time to look) you open the app, it has your media servers, for me it has WMP and TVersity. You pick your server and pick either Music or Video. Like I said I haven't tried video yet, but Music you get the basic breakdown like on the PS3. Artist, Album, Genre, Album Artist ETC.

In addition to your post I did run across a video on Youtube giving some detail regarding this feature for the Logitech Revue. I am curious as to Sony implementation of this feature. If anyone that has the Sony version and would mind providing some information on this I am certainly looking forward to this.

I recently purchased the google TV. I haven't had too much luck with video streaming. Best circumstance I can get sound only. According to the media server specs on the TV, it can only play MP4 files (in my 50+ movie collection online I only have 1).

I use TVersity to stream to my 360 (most successful) and my PS3. I've monkeyed with the configuration to change transcoding and streaming but in best case I can get sound without picture. The one MP4 file I have does not play at all.

Keep me posted with your findings.

Same here. I have a large variation of containers in my assortment of movies so I can see this being quite a challenge. Seems to be the same issue as the standard Android OS.

I've got a Western Digital My Book World Addition NAS that runs Twonky, and I also installed Twonky on my Mac. I'm able to access files on both, and haven't had a problem so far with AVI files, and I even played a MKV file.

I am streaming from a ReadyNAS server and also tried a file from my win7 machine with the same results. the videos play but pause constantly. I can't wait until VLC comes out for this box because the media player from Logitech is half baked. Also don't know why they didn't just build in samba/NFS support. Is there some advantage to DLNA?

I am running a mac with Nullriver Medialink to my google tv. Setup is easy, only costs $20 or you can use little snitch to block it for free. It has no problems with audio, and video files show up but do not play at this time. The device says that video formats are still in beta and do not work. Not sure if this is an issue with Medialink or all DLNA media servers. Those of you that have used Twonky, do your video files play? I have a lot of information saved with each video file through itunes, hence why I went with Medialink. Twonky simply shows me the files as files. They aren't categorized or anything. Those of you that got Twonky working, do you like it?

I installed the twonky server and pointed it at my media folders. no other setup beyond that. When I go into google tv and start the logitech media player app it finds the share. from there I just clicked the video and it played. twonky is transcoding them on the fly since the revue can't seem to play my .mkv's yet

I tried tversity, but it didn't work well for me. prob wasn't setup correctly.

The advantage to DLNA is range that it is supported on samba requires additional steps as does NFS. Most average home users can't handle that. Just plug in a DLNA device and away you go. I stream my Zune library from my win7 pc to Revue with no skipping or pauses, I do have both devices wired though since I think wireless in any form is not acceptable unless its the only option. I even plug in my laptop when i am sitting in my living room. This i guess is on of the perks of being a network tech and having every room in your house patched up though.

The Sony NSZ-GT1 box picks up all of my media on my Mac with Playback installed (15 bucks and you can run it on three Macs). Every movie I tried worked (I tried a few different formats). All of my playlists showed up and played flawless, and I'm going to see if I can view all my shared pictures tonight when I get home. The one major issue I have at this point is (and I've mentioned this on multiple forums already) you can't SEARCH the DLNA server with the Sony box. With the Logitech Revue you can goto Settings>Search and check off a box that lets you search all your DLNA content via quick search. I have over 500 GB of media on my server, and flipping through all of it to play a CD is not worth the time. I really need/want this option the Logitech has. Without it i might as well not have the ablility to stream my content, I just have too much. I'm really hoping for an update ASAP. You would think that this would be a standard feature being that Google is THE SEARCH ENGINE to use, but of course, it's not. Why would it be right? So now I wait paciently for something that might not even come (knowing how slow hardware companies are to push updates...Im not optomistic at all right now).

How did you get the Twonky server to show up on Google TV?
I have a 2TB My Book Live with built in Twonky Server and a Sony NSZ-GT1 Google TV Blu-ray Player.

The Twonky server shows up on cable box and computers.
