Heres the deal, I got my DX 3 weeks ago, transferred all my pics info etc. to my new phone from my old phone as you would normaly do. The phone has worked great, no probs, just an awsome phone. Then yesterday my light was blinking on the phone thought I had a mess, no mess, just an sd card icon that said "SD card blank or has unsupported filesystem". I didn't touch anything, I did not reformat, just left it alone untill I could figure out what it ment. Couple of min later went to show a buddy a picture , everything was gone, no pics, no videos,no nothing. I tried pulling the card out of the phone and putting it into a comp to see what was there, my computer couldnt even find the card. I took my phone to Verizon and they comfirmed that my sd card was no good it just some how failed. Then they said to me good luck with that, sorry and they offered me a new sd card free of charge. Heres the prob, just had a baby girl born not to long ago, tons of pics, some are even 5 to 6 years old. My bad for not downloading on to my comp, but really. I lost everything and Im so glad that verizon just shrugged there shoulders at me and give a crap about the phone or even fixing the prob. I would like anwers to why this happened or if there is anyway to retreive the data lost. My comp guy says he thinks he can get all the data back, going there today I will keep people informed. FYI DX people back your pics and files up on a reg basis.

that really sucks, and i'm totally sympathetic, but...

usually those corrupt filesystems are caused by application errors (i've seen picswap so it, and slacker has admitted their app has caused this),or sometimes even viruses. it can also be caused by unplugging the phone from your computer before unmounting. or maybe the SD card was bad. it's not likely it was caused by a faulty phone. so, it's likely not verizon's or motorola's fault.
so, my question is, what exactly do you expect the verizon rep should have done? the files are likely gone, and if they're not, it would likely take someone who is well versed in data forensics to recover them. that is a bit outside the scope of a sales rep or customer service rep. you're expecting them to fix something they cant, when it really isnt their issue to deal with. offering you a new SD card is really about the best they could probably do.

out of curiosity, if you go to settings > SD Card, does it show it's empty, or is there still used space?

Thanks for the info, however, all the things you mentioned could be likely cause in some cases. For me it has been confirmed the sd card failed for no ryme or reason. So far my comp guy has been able extract close to 40% of the files so far which is good news, so not all is lost. I will keep updates going on that. As to Verizon and or Moto, nobody is blaming them, but when something breaks people generally want anwsers so this doent happen again. Thats fine if they can not fix the prob, but hey here's a customer service thought, maybe point me in the direction where I can get an anwser or to someone who can fix the prob. For them to offer me a new sd card for free is great, but for them to say well if it keeps happening we will keep exchanging sd cards for you at no charge, I mean really! One of the reasons I got this phone was for the pic and video quality I could get with it, but whats the point if Im paranoid that my sd card is going fail at a moments notice for no reason. Like I said just an anwser thats all I wanted, so I can fix the problem and it doesnt happen again. Customer service is everything!

It stands to reason that out of the thousands of cards that are manufactured that there will be a few that will have this type of catastrophic failure. It is rare, but it does happen, and usually for no reason at all.

This. Sounds like you got a bad card. It sucks, but it happens. Especially with some of these generic no-name cards that some of the DX's shipped with, you never know exactly what you're getting, quality-wise. And this is why you should ALWAYS back up important data from your mobile device. They are good for using to share info and pics, but HORRIBLE to use as permanent long-term storage. Too easily damaged/lost/stolen.

This happened to me recently. However, due to circumstances, I haven't even tried syncing with my PC yet. I got the phone 10 days ago, and now everything's gone. I don't quite know what happened, or what to do to get the card working again.
It's quite annoying because I had family pictures on my card and haven't been home to sync to PC.
Has anyone been able to salvage the card in any way.

same thing happened here. i believe its because of a defect of the phone from when it gets so hot and it affects the sd card

WHat? for real? That is crap then for htc, i have lost 3 cards in a week and now am considering selling this once awsome phone, but is costing me more in sd cards and not having fun with the phone anymore, not knowing if my photos and stuff will be gone th enext day...htc sucks!
