Help How do i update my droid eris to Ota 2.1???

you can download it and install it from your computer.

Shipped ROMs

download that. connect your phone to your computer (charge only mode) and run the program. It will walk you through the rest.

NOTE: THIS WILL WIPE your settings (contacts bookmarks etc) so back them up.

After you can hope into the root section and look into rooting. There are a lot of great roms out there, including ones that are basically stock 2.1 that will perform far better than the official release. HTC did a decent job but they are not really good at streamlining and making their software perform well. Some of these roms you can install (especially the 2.1 roms) are incredibly fast and just run rings around the stock 2.1

OK i recently got a droid eris and it is now running 1.5, I want to get the 2.1 update but every time I go to settings and then check for an update it says "your system is currently up to date." I want to know how to update to the ota 2.1.

Quite recently google and verizon stopped making available the OTA downloads for the Eris, so there is no way to perform an OTA, even in the event that you got your phone to cooperate.

The Shipped ROMS link that Haxcid provided only brings your Eris up to Leak V3; there was another 2.1 bug-fix OTA in mid july of this year which follows that and it is also no longer available through official channels. (Someone posted a link to it though - in response to a query for it by AF user pkopalek, so it might still be around. OTA .zip files can be applied by renaming them "update.zip", putting them in the root folder of your SD card, and using the stock recovery boot to install it.)

Note that the OTA installation process is highly specific to the version of the software which is pre existing on your phone; in the above example, you must have Leak V3 installed in order to use that specific OTA file.

There is a "Flashback21" ROM which will update your phone to the July OTA factory ROM, but you need to root your phone first before you can install it... and then the Flashback21 ROM will unroot your phone :(

To my understanding the dummies method of rooting is the only easyway to easily root a 1.5 phone; I don't think the One-Click app works on 1.5.

There; now you have several options - the rest is up to you.

is there any way to download the update to my sd card?

Hard to say, as the version of the OTA you need depends on the version of the 1.5 OS you have on the phone (1.16.605.1, 1.17.605.1, or other?), and you have not said what it is. You determine what that is from Settings -> About phone

I have some of the OTA files, but not all of them.

The other complicating factor is that I can't remember how to get past the 1.5 recovery boot splash screen to get to the recovery menu (it changed in all of the 2.1 releases ).

Probably the best advice is for you to root; from there you can either install a dev ROM, or unroot using the Flashback21 ROM (if you want stock)

I did a little more research this evening, and the definitive answer to your question is an emphatic

YES!

Rather than spoon feed you though, you get a homework assignment:

Have a look at this post over in the Eris-all-things-root forum, and then tell me:

1) What version of software is on your phone.
2) Which file you want me to post a download link for.
3) How you plan on installing it on your phone (based on the info in that post)
