OK i recently got a droid eris and it is now running 1.5, I want to get the 2.1 update but every time I go to settings and then check for an update it says "your system is currently up to date." I want to know how to update to the ota 2.1.
Quite recently google and verizon stopped making available the OTA downloads for the Eris, so there is no way to perform an OTA, even in the event that you got your phone to cooperate.
The Shipped ROMS link that Haxcid provided only brings your Eris up to Leak V3; there was another 2.1 bug-fix OTA in mid july of this year which follows that and it is also no longer available through official channels. (Someone posted a link to it though - in response to a query for it by AF user pkopalek, so it might still be around. OTA .zip files can be applied by renaming them "update.zip", putting them in the root folder of your SD card, and using the stock recovery boot to install it.)
Note that the OTA installation process is highly specific to the version of the software which is pre existing on your phone; in the above example, you must have Leak V3 installed in order to use that specific OTA file.
There is a "Flashback21" ROM which will update your phone to the July OTA factory ROM, but you need to root your phone first before you can install it... and then the Flashback21 ROM will
unroot your phone
To my understanding the dummies method of rooting is the only
easyway to easily root a 1.5 phone; I don't think the One-Click app works on 1.5.
There; now you have several options - the rest is up to you.
