So Far I really like my brand new g1. Everything seems to be really smooth. I have ran into one difficulty. The messages application app isnt very smooth at all. In fact it is really clunky.

On most app likes the contacts the finger scrolling works beautifully. Inside the messages app its jumpy to scroll between conversation threads.

The thing is I really don't have that many conversation threads. I have like 12 threads and scrolling through them is really jumpy.

Individual conversations aren't nearly as jumpy.

The more you have, the more you're going to run into this problem.

Same thing is true in the gmail inbox, and if you ever look into the "manage applications" area it's also true. The longer the list, the more trouble it's going to be to nav through.

I would consider 12 "a lot". I have, at most, 4 at any time.

I recommend getting Txtract and then regularly exporting texts and deleting threads. It'll keep the interface smooth.

The only problem I have with the messaging app is how it handles responses to a mass text. I'm sure you've noticed if you send "Merry Christmas" to a bunch of people, it doesn't move that to the pre-existing threads for those people, it doesn't even create new threads if you don't have one for that contact. Nope, it creates a thread specifically for that message --- BUT any replies go to the thread for that contact, or generates a new thread, thus you get disjointed threads because that "Merry Christmas" sms isn't included. This is a very minor annoyance, as I only send out mass sms every once in awhile. I'm not on an unlimited plan, and I know very few people who are.

You only keep 4 at a time? Then you Dont even need to scroll. four easily fits on a screen.

Also I dont notice the choppy behavior in either the gmail app or the manage applications section. There are many applications on the phone that have huge lists to navigate through like the contacts that are not jumpy at all.

Why does the messages app become choppy with so few messages?

Not trying to be a jerk or cause trouble, but the link you pointed us to is a post by you that says this:

"Please be aware that the Tips and Tricks section is for posting, Tips and Tricks of the Android OS. Please remember to post questions in the correct forums so that you get quick assistance by our wonderful forum members and sexy mods. Thanks!"

This thread is in T-Mobile G1> Support

did you or someone else move this thread? Because if you didn't, your reference doesn't make sense, it would appear to be in the correct forum.

we make posting mistakes and then the moderators get grumpy for having to do what they volunteered to do ... if we didnt make occassional mistakes we wouldn't need 'em and then they would be boo-hooing that they had nothing to do and no Power to smack our hands.... "Mod BURN3R" is one the most vigilant !! *vigilante* hehehehe ...
Thanks! I know that it can be confusing and all, but we wish to keep the sections from becoming a mess, so we Moderate them. The problem with the Tips and Tricks section is that people insist on posting anything and everything they want, in that specific forum. Im no too sure why its been the target, but like you have said, we are here to Moderate the forum and keep it clean. No one is getting grumpy, believe me. If you didnt manage to consistently post in the wrong section, then i wouldnt be here telling you so. Have a great day :)
