Help Droid X Poor Battery Life With 2.2?

Has anyone else noticed much poorer battery life on the Droid X since updating to 2.2? I find my phone running low on juice much quicker now than it ever was with 2.1, even after rooting and installing SetCPU. I typically leave bluetooth, wifi, and GPS all turned off unless I am specifically using them, so I am not sure what is causing this battery drain. Any help would be appreciated.

I haven't experienced any reduction in battery life with the 2.2 update. In the vast majority of cases of battery life with Android problems, someone just has a rogue app(or several) that consume resources when they shouldn't be. System Panel Lite is a good task manager style app that lets you see the individual CPU usage of all of the apps installed on the phone. I'd suggest installing that and slowly scrolling through the list and see if any apps are constantly using a little bit of CPU even if you closed them or never opened them.

If you are running SetCPU you may need to set up profiles for screen off/sleep, etc to be sure the processor slows down during those (and other) conditions. Battery drain can result with the wrong settings in that app.

Also, I'd go through all syncing apps to be sure nothing is set to update too frequently in the background, etc.

I have noticed inconsistent battery life on 2.2
Some days (like yesterday) my battery drains from full down to 20% after sitting idle on my desk for 2 hours. I did not touch the phone, no phone calls, no email, no text, but after 2 hours, it was down to 20%

Other days, like today, after being off the charger for 13.5 hours, BT on, phone call for about 30 minutes, about 50 emails, reading the news, facebook etc, it is still sitting at 70% charge.

I have looked but haven't found anything trends on what may be causing excessive battery drain. I'm guessing battery may be going bad, although its only 3 months old.

I'd recommend looking into Widgets, Apps, & Live Wallpaper...

I know these are all major drainers of the battery...

I didn't have the pleasure to use 2.1, but with 2.2 that is on my DX, I can go 2 days without charging it if I had to...

That's with Weatherbug running, facebook notifications, widgets, live wallpaper, txts, emails, and some phone calls.

I did notice when I removed the Facebook / Myspace account from "Settings > Accounts" it became faster and less battery drain...

So some things you may want to consider.

Hm. I think I might try that. I only use the stock FB app to sync contact pics, but that hasn't been working anyway. I may download syncmypix and remove the link.

Same as the others running 2.2. I'm not rooted. Take it off the charger at about 6 AM and put it back on the charger about 11 PM. I typically still have 30-40% battery life left despite moderate to heavy use throughout the day.

Now the reason I posted a similar report to the others above was to mention that I didn't get this battery life right away with 2.2. Initially I was only getting about 8 or 9 hours out of a charge. My battery life (for whatever reason) gradually improved over a 2 or 3 week period of running 2.2. Perhaps you will have a similar experience. Give it a chance-

I don't get nearly as much battery usage as Top Quark, but my battery seems better with 2.2 than it did with 2.1. I'm also testing the Overclock app on "stock" frequency but with ULV (ultra low voltage) and seem to be doing even better. I still have 70% battery after unplugging this morning at 7am. But to be fair, I've only used 1 hour of the display today, which is less than normal.

Have you tried turning down the display brightness, and making sure the display is turned off as soon as you stop using the phone? That's increased my battery life significantly. I also have an 80-second timeout set.

Just a couple of ideas...
