Hello,

before i invest a large sum of money into this project.

I currently have the cheapest plan available at Tmobile which still come out to $50 without internet. I would like to invest in a bad ass handset, (HTC Evo $G) and then use service from Virgin mobile $25 a month with 3g internet.

I have read and downloaded all necessary programs to change a ESN on the phone. I just would like to know.

What am I missing?

Is it just as simple as changing a ESN number to one on a Virgin mobile phone?

This has been done multiple times from Verizon Phones, Sprint Phones, to Cricket, Boost, and MetroPCS

Any Reason this should not work?

Is there something virgin has implimented that would prevent this from working?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I haven't heard of this being done from sprint to virgin yet but I think sprint recently bought virgin so that may improve your chances.

It's almost as if virgin's become the pay-as-go arm of the sprint giant.

I have been following reports of people getting their sprint evo working on boost mobile...
HTC EVO 4G Sprint to Boost

I'd be interested in setting up my no-contract evo with the option for pay-as-you-go data, but so far it sounds either too complicated or shady.

Please keep us up to date with with your findings. I'm pretty much right behind you.

This is for Droid-X and for Cricket,

So I will see what I can figure out for a EVO to Virgin Mobile

That is because Cricket allows it, as does metro. They will allow almost any (possibly any) CDMA phone using it's real ESN. VM, Sprint, Verizon, and boost do not. The only way to get it to work is cloning the ESN and modifying settings.

Side note: This is illegal.

Quite throwing around that "Illegal" term, its not as definite as people think.

I am also researching Cloning ESN numbers but have not found anyone who has successfully done so. I mean they have cloned the ESN but still were not able to activate phone.

P.S ****!!!! JUST BOUGHT A REFURBISHED EVO 4G for $220.... Now I am committed...

The issue i think is that if anything remotely close to illegal is mentiones in a thread it will get shut down and or deleted.

I say sell the evo for profit? Keep the research going...pay sprint ...or sell it.
Hell i will start the bidding going at $50 :p

Two things:

It is illegal. Very black and white on that one. The only gray area (in my head) is if you are not cloning to fraudulently obtain service. I don't know if that is or is not legal.

2. Research more. I won't tell you where to find it, but I will tell you there are evos, heros, etc on VM and Boost. The settings are out there.

Here is a link about cloning,

I was under in impression that this violated company policy meaning that if i were to purchase it from OEM or if i was a customer of Sprint.

If i own both phones, IE the samsung Intercept ad the HTC Evo 4g and I modified for my application, how would i breaking the law.

I understand if I were to sell the modified phone, then I would be breaking the law....

I still do not understand howit is illegal and who would be enforcing these "laws"

The more i research the more I hate goverment control over Cell Phone service, wtf is up with all these taxes on my bill, (texas has the 2nd highest tax on cell phone service at almost 20%)

here is a very educational link

First, read the link you provided to me. You may see an interesting warning.

Second. I highly doubt if you did this one time for your phone you would have cops knocking on your door. That doesn't mean it is legal. It is a fraudulent use of the phone to get it on a network that explicitly denies it. The law was probably never truly about Joe Blow cloning his own phone. It does still apply to Joe.

P.S. You mention "customer of Sprint". Guess who you are a customer of if you have boost or VM cellular service.

P.P.S. That link isn't quite going to help with what you are shooting for.

well i guess if anyone were to help me then it would cause problems for them, all I want is to use a EVO 4g and only pay $25 a month

Right now I have a G1 with no 3g just 500 minutes and unlimited text and i'm paying about $50 a month.... so i am willing to put in some effort to make this work.

xda developers say its not possible, as of current.

xtravbx: do you have a link/source for that? The two threads I've seen on XDA haven't been posted to in almost a week.

I'm interested in doing this strictly for 3G access. I have the Evo on MetroPCS' 40 dollar plan right now, and I'm not sure how much longer I can stand 1X data speeds.

I haven't seen it firsthand, but I believe that it's possible to get the Evo on VM. My only concern is having to buy an Intercept just to stick it in a drawer. I've thought about getting an Intercept to copy the settings from, then returning it for a cheaper phone and using that as the donor. I don't know if data speeds are capped on non-Intercept/BB plans, though.

I gave up on this,

$219.99 at best buy minus 10% coupon $183.33 plus tax $198.45

Sold old g1 for $60

So total spend $138.45

Monthly saving (46.71-27) $19 a month

So break even point is 7.30 months.

So breakdown,
Original money Spent $138.45 for a phone slightly better then my g1
Save $19 a month over original plan
Lose Free Nights/Weekend/Mobile to Mobile Minutes
Lose 200 anytime minutes
Gain 3G internet...

So Hopefully in 7 months someone will be able to figure out how to get Evo 4G to work on virgin network lol
