Should I root my sf?
I rooted it before but it got messed up so I got a replacement phone...
So im just scared that is going to happen.
If I do root it, can you guys tell me exactly what to do?
Absolutely we will help. The root process is unchanged. So just do the same thing you did last time to root. Plenty of good stuff here: http://androidforums.com/samsung-fa...-13-october-2010-4-07am-central-u-s-time.html
Basically once you root its a matter of what to do next. If you are unsure just check in with someone to make sure its safe. Most bloatware can be removed but be careful taking to much. OC, ROM's, kernels its all in the linkage above.

So after I root, I want to get voodoo/kernal... watever I need... thats when I skrewed up... which one should I do since there is a lot of voodoo stuff out there
There was a lot of issues moving from voodoo v.1 to v.2. Also people who try to uninstall voodoo sometimes get problems. However, if you are committed to running voodoo then you should have no issues at all whatsoever. Finding the kernel thats bets for your phone will take time and testing. For you initial flash you might as well stick to a 1Ghz kernel and move up in speed from there.

Stock Voltage vs Low Voltage
His D02's are the newest ones and the ones that have voodoo inside already so if you go with Dirrk's use one of his D02's. In your case the 1000LV is a nice starting point. It is flashed on with CWM. I suppose we should ask if you have CWM. If not you will need to get that on first and foremost

Hey Saps,

In his post Dirrk mentions that "All of these kernels have the voodoo fix"
[KERNEL] Dirrk D02 Voodoo lagfix OC/UV - xda-developers
I thought the difference between D01&D012 and D02 was that the latter had some new animation screen.

I didn't want to change my start up animation screen so I installed D012. I think it fixed my lag just fine.

Should I bother trying the D02 to see if there's any difference?

Like Saps said, make sure you do CWM first, then go ahead with one of the voodoo kernels. I started out with the LV1100 D02 and that has been absolutely amazing for me. The battery life is a bit better and the phone itself is way more fluid and quite a bit quicker with no issues thus far. I picked that one first since it seemed to be best of both worlds (slight increase in battery life/slight overclock). But the best way to find one that is good for you is to just test it out.

With the D02 I have, I got the Samsung text and then just black (with Galaxy S/Verizon bootup sounds) until the lock screen. I had to manually change both the bootup screen and in the process decided to change the bootup/shutdown sound as well. So I would say if you want to customize the bootup animations or sounds, choose the D02. Does the D01/D012 keep the Galaxy S/Verizon animation and sounds?

Yes, the D01/D012 does keep the Galaxy S/Verizon animation and sounds.

My quadrant score/Linpack score stayed relatively the same with both D012 vs D02. I only tried it for a short while though. Maybe I'll retry it later for a more extended period.

My main issue is whether D02 is more streamlined so as to further improve upon battery life.

I ended up going with D02 with Animations SV1200 (i changed my boot up animations), so far my battery has been great, I listen to a lot of slacker, surf the net, wifi, and gps(while in the car), I only charged in the car while driving to school (at most 10 minute charge) its 11:15 pm and i'm at 8% so as you can see the battery has been great, full day of entertainment :D

To the best of my knowledge D02 is D012 just with bootanimations. D01 vs D012 there was some tweaking I believe.

D02 should perform exactly the same as D012; only diff I believe is bootzips
Hey Bezerk,
Looks like I might give it a shot...I just didn't want to loose my start up animatinos.
So when you say "with animations" yours does come with the stock boot video.??
Mine is just black screen after the SAMSUNG logo. how do you put the "stock" start up screen where the black screen is?
Did you do the whole copy and paste thing? If you copy/extract the bootanimation.zip out of either jt's or Dirrks kernel and place it in data/local you should be GTG. Gotta have RE of course

That was my understanding also, but no once you install this your animations are black screens, you hear the boot up sounds, but no animations, which is why i dropped the bootanimation.zip which is something totally different than the stock. Not sure how you can get the stock back on though.
