hero battery is very hot and can't recieve picture texts

Hello, I recently purchased the htc hero and i really like it!! but there are a few things that bug me. I can't view pictures sent to me via text, and i tried to send a video clip through and email and i get this weird error message and now my phone keeps asking me for my user name and user email and i enter it then it says its not working, and then the battery gets very hot when im not using it and does not last long!!! I want to love my phone but it's just not working for me, please help me out!!

Contact the carrier that you purchased the phone from... it sounds like you've got an issue with the phone.
