Help im a noob, with some stupid questions

hey, im new to all this... i got my first smartphone: x10i in august.. it was purchased in england, but now im using it in egypt with a vodafone sim.... few weeks ago i got to know about the 2.1 software update and i have been eagerly awaiting it... do u know when exactly ill be able to get the update? isnt it supposed to be out today?
also i just heard about 'rooting' my fone and home replacements (adw launcher).. so shud i root my fone, what are the benefits of doing so? n what will ADW give me? or since the update is gonna be out soon, shud i just wait for that?

baseband version: 1.1.28
build number: R2BA024
i really like this fone, but i feel like i dont know alot of stuff.... plss, help me

Is your phone branded or unbranded? If it is unbranded you will receive the update when it is released within the next few days. If it is branded, you will have to wait until Vodafone have made their changes to it before they release it, but they have not yet announced when this will be.

About rooting....When rooting a phone, you change the phone font and use apps that are only for rooted phones, such as wifi tether etc.

ADW is an alternative home screen for your phone, it provides features that the stock home does not, such as extra screens (the stock home app has 3 screens, the ADW can have as many as 7). You could just wait for the update but as nobody knows when this will be released, you may be better of using ADW

ohh k.... thanks a lot... i think my fone is branded, shit! it would suck if i have to wait any longer.... btw do i have to root my fone in order to use ADW or is that not necessary?
and is debranding a complicated process? will i lose anything/are there any disadvantages?

Calm down mate

Dont bother rooting your phone or debranding it as you will void your warranty!

Just hang back and wait for the update on your carrier, ADW will work fine on your phone unrooted and is just a home replacement so go for ADW and get used to more than 3 desktop screens

If i were you then I would consider yourself VERY lucky as you are still within your 14 day return period and so you can take teh phone back and get something that wont make your life miserable like an HTC Desire.

I have never been so disappointed with ANY product I have ever bought....had phone 7 months now and the bugs that were there on day one are still there today....but woop de woop I will be able to do HD recording on my phone. If I wanted to do bloody HD video recording I would have bought a blooody video camera! I wanted a phone that I could HEAR people on! IO wanted a phone that would connect everyday to the same wifi network and not just when it felt like it. I wanted a phone that doesnt hang up in calls. A phone that I could hear ring in my pocket! I could go and on....

My advive to anyone who has just mistakenly bought an X10 is to take it back and save yourself the pain!

okay i have a problem.... i downloaded adw launcher, but what do i do now... i tried pressing the home button but i get a list of recently used apps only.... how do i enable adw?

Download Home Switcher too, then use that to launch ADW and when you are happy you can set it as default using this app too. It will show you Home (SE own launcher) Timescape and ADW.

Glad you liked it... it was this app that gave me the comfort zone to change my launcher otherwise you have to go into menu and applications and clear something and ....... Yeah I can't even remember, so opening Home Switcher is much easier!

Maybe you can post some images on Show Us Your Homescreen if you haven't already. There is a guide on how to do it on there too or within the sticky X10 thread at top of forum. It sounds complicated but its not really!

hey guys, one more question..... my 3g settings were automatically enabled and it was working fine for a while.... but now it doesnt work.... how can i enable/disable it? shud i go to the nearest vodafone store?

Settings - wireless controls - mobile networks - MMS & Data. I use an app called SwitchPro Widget which makes turning it on and off easier.

thanks, i got this widget called APN OnOff and its awesome... works perfectly, as i can enable/disable my 3g in just one click.... also any idea when vodafone will release the 2.1 update?
