So, Sony won't replace my X10i...

Back story: I purchased a Xperia X10i back in May and I live in Georgia. Ok, so after a few months, my phone won't charge anymore. I've tried different Sony chargers for the X10 and different batteries. Same thing. I have come to the conclusion that it's a faulty pin connector or something in the handset. I e-mail Sony Ericsson UK to ask them to replace it(still under 1 year manufacturers warranty) and they say it's not in their region, so they can't help me out. So then I contact Sony Ericsson North America and they say that they can ONLY replace my phone with an X10a. I have T-Mobile and purchased the X10i for a reason, so I want an X10i in return. They tell me they have no way to get an X10i(yeah right) and I should contact Sony Ericsson UK...so, I e-mail Sony UK again and they just refuse to respond. What should I do?

Does T-Mobile use GSM sim cards or CDMA chips?

The X10a does cover all GSM networks as well as all the 3G stuff...soooo technically if they replaced you with an X10a, you should be able to still use it provided T-Mobile uses sim cards and not the chips. =D

You've shot well past the point...he has a problem with charging the phone, and SE UK nor US will replace it for the X10i, only the x10a

well now i'm confused

if the original phone purchased was a) in GEORGIA and b) defo an X10i then i would say its down to the carrier to replace the phone - UNLESS they only deal in the X10a NOW

if it was bought outside the US and is a EURO X10i then unfortunately the situation you are in is correct - EURO warranty isn't valid in the USA so SEUK by law cannot honour it.

this is my opinion though but logical methinks

From what I knew The "i" means international which is everywhere but "a" America. Now I'm sure I have read of people in the US that have "i" yet others like those on AT&T are on the "a".

To the OP where did you buy the phone from? This answer would help a lot as in the UK if the phone was brought XY or Z shop be it a dedicated carrier shop or not that is where you would take the phone and demand a replacement under the trades descriptions act.

So why not go back to the people you got the phone from?

Ok, an update. Sony Ericsson North America(SE NA) contacted me via e-mail and said that I can send my phone in and they will repair it. If they are unable to repair it, they will replace it with an X10a. I fully expect it to be repaired because its not that complicated of an issue. All they have to do is replace the port. So, I sent it in yesterday via Fed-Ex(like 7 bucks) and they said I should receive the phone back in 7-10 business day, so I'm looking at the end of next week.
To anyone who was having a hard time grappling the whole "X10i in America thing"...I bought the phone from expansys-usa.com. I didn't buy the warranty from them and it was unlocked, with no carrier deal, so I had no reason to contact them or my carrier. The Xperia comes with a one year manufacturers warranty. Now, regardless of where I live or take my phone, I should be able to receive support from the company from which the unit was shipped or holds the warranty, that being Sony Ericsson UK. I know the phone is sold everywhere but the Americas and Australia, but it's not like my warranty is voided if I purchase the phone whilst being in a non-European country. I simply wanted T-Mobile 3g bands, so I opted for the X10i. Hope that clears up any confusion.

Well for 1 you are simply correct that your warranty is not voided, however incorrect on everything else, the warranty is actually 2 years if a European handset

As you bought the phone from expansys-usa.com then you should have contacted them as they sold you the product. As they are selling a UK market handset in an AMERICAN marketplace, this causes its own problem.

The reason i say this is that the warranty is geographic

If the phone was manufactured for distribution in the UK then any country or service centre within the bounds of the European Economic Area.

If the phone was manufactured for distribution in the USA, then any service centre in the States would repair it.

however as SE USA have agreed to look at it for you there's no point in going on, but next time, be careful on how and where you buy products as imports generally have NO warranty

I'm not entirely sure, but I think you're wrong MrWomble

As far as I thought, the X10i and X10a are not for specific countries, they are for the type of radio (3G & EDGE). So I thought it all depends on what radio type the carrier uses.

But like I said, I could be wrong

no again i accept i may be wrong on the way the phone is branded for market differences, but the warranty info does stand.

As an example if i had a european phone, sony USA is not obliged by law to honour the warranty as it is not warranted under that country

Well I was lead to believe that some carriers in the USA offer the X10i. Maybe someone is feeding me the wrong info

Update #2: A few hours ago, I received an e-mail back from an associate at expansys-usa( I e-mailed them over the weekend in the midst of my frustration, hoping for a possible solution). I told them I didn't expect them to fix or replace my phone, as I didn't buy their warranty and honestly don't think they offer standard one. I just wanted them to somehow help me get in contact with whatever Sony branch they got the phone from and send it to them for repair. He e-mailed me back and asked for my order number. I gave it to him and he sent me an RMA form and said he would simply get it replaced. This was a surprise to me and I will definitely take them up on that offer depending on if Sony can repair the one I have sent off already.

Exactly. I never expected Sony USA to honor my warranty, which is why I contacted Sony UK. I was baffled as to why Sony UK re-directed me to Sony USA.

CuBz - i think you missed the point, although the phone was bought on an American website - the phone was originally supplied to them by SE UK - hence a UK WARRANTY

No thats what confused me to, although i can see why SE UK wouldn't do anything direct, only assumption i can make is that if SE is knowingly having phones sold in USA from other markets then they are waivering the geographical T & C's on the warranty

But congrats on the web offer, just get them to swap it out - if SE USA can't or won't repair

Ahh sorry you're right, I did miss the point. I'm just a little tired lately, too many midwife appointments, baby scans etc with my girlfriend, as she's due to give birth in a months time, plus were moving house on Monday so there's been alot to do, so I'm very tired and can't concentrate lol. Sorry, and ignore me if any of my posts are a little out of place

Don't be a tease. JUST POST IT!!!!!! :p

I think its about him being told by a reliable SE source that the update was due out on Wednesday 3rd November. He mentions the source is 95% correct with thing like this.

I seen it on another post, can't find it tho, but that is what I remember of it

Edit: Found it :D

anyhow, during this meeting, we were talking about the 2.1 update and it was mentioned by one of the guys from sony that we should expect it on wednesday next week, 3rd november

now i'm not in any way saying that this is defo the release date - and yes people may question the validity of this - but the guy who told me has been about 95% accurate on launches beforehand - and if i was a betting man - i'd put money on it

obviously this hasn't been confirmed on any channels, and if i even ask seuk on twitter they will just blah blah blah can't confirm blah blah blah

so do with it what you will
