Root GAOSP Gapps Light/Ultra Light [10/24/2010]

I will update this package frequently.

These packages are alternative gapps. These Gapps should improve performance. On top of that all apps are up to date (like YouTube). Ultra Light version will also remove unnecessary preinstalled apps like yaam, DSP Audio Manager and so on (and some more gapps of course).

ReadMe Light:
Code:
###- GAOSP Gapps Light -###

!Create a nandroid backup first!

You don't have to make a fresh gaosp installation anymore. Use this package to install gapps.

1. Copy zip to your internal SD
2. Boot into Recovery
3. Fix packages permissions
4. Apply any zip from SD and choose this zip

How easy would it be to take apart the existing Gapps, remove what you want and re-install it ? Then again, it might be easier to figure out how to remove what I don't want ...

REAL easy, if you can sign applications.

It's a .zip, so all you've got to do is to open it, delete the .apks you don't want (or add any .apk you want) and then sign the new Gapps.zip (you can name it whatever you want.)

I only know how to sign applications on Windows though. There's already a Guide right here. ;)

EDIT: Sorry, I misread your question. To remove some apps that were included in the GApps package, you simply have to delete the .apk using something like Root Explorer because uninstalling them the normal way won't work.

If I remember correctly they are located in /System/App

Removing the applications you don't want from the Gapps and then reinstalling it won't work, as the previous applications are still going to be on your phone. Applying such a .zip via the recovery only adds or overwrites apps, it won't remove any of them.

wrong
You can remove apps too (with a little script)
This Script is included in new Gapps Light/Ultra Light package (release soon)

Yeah, but I was talking about simply adding or removing the .apk files (what I actually described).

You can use a script, but I don't really see the point unless you are releasing to the public (like you are).

I tried using GAOSP-10292010-NIGHTLY, with gapps-gaosp-ultralight-10312010-signed.zip (From http://obihoernchen.androidcodex.co...ht/gapps-gaosp-ultralight-10312010-signed.zip ) however I now have no voice navigation in maps, it all works, but clearly the TextToSpeach bit is not working.

(Also in Settings->VoiceInputOutput->TTSSettings I can't listen to an example)

Looking at the changelog, both ttsservice and picotts are now removed, however I cant find a way of restoring these services from the market.

Is there a way of manually installing these services, is so where can I find the relevant APK files??

I guess my alternative is to apply the light version? Can i simply apply the light over the top of ultralight, or do i need to wipe?

And on a minor point, Obihoernchen can the changelog include all past changes, and just append the latest changes at the top of the file. This way we can see what has happened in the past few iterations, not just the current one.

Thanks in advance...

You can try applying the light version over it, just do a Nandroid backup just in case.

Hmm "lite" apps installed over the top, didnt seem to work, still no TTS functionality.

Lesson learnt, Next GAOSP update I'll fully wipe and install the fatter apps.

Out of interest, can anyone provide a link to the original apps (rather than Obihoernchen's lite versions) and do you need the apps to match the GAOSP release, or are they always the same for each version??
