Thought LEtstlak.com I can get the following at&t android phones on upgrade:

Samsung Captivate : $80
Sony Xperie X10: Free
HTC Aria: Free

I thought the Aria would be a good choice until I read all about screens cracking all too easy, otherwise it looks like a good phone with good features and is pocketable.

Captivate seems a no-brainer until you factor in GPS issues and RFS file system lagging.

Xperia X10, stuck on android 1.6 and no multi-touch pinch zoom.

Probably go with Captivate for $80 more but the Aria is very compelling.

Please help....

Thanks

Our contract with AT&T ends 12/20/10. Was thinking of jumping to T-mo for the Mytouch 4G or G2 but with all the activation fees and phone prices I just can't beat going with the Captivate now. the Aria used to be my number one choice (don't need the super best) but the screen cracking issues scare me off.

Everything about the Aria fits my needs in a smartphone, I am only scare by the apparent delicateness of the screen.

The Motorola Defy on t-Mobile really had me interested with it's gorilla glass and water resistant case.

None of the above. If you want a great android experience you will need to avoid samsung and att.

The Captivate is a wonderful phone. After reviewing AT&T's abysmal line of Android phones, it's really the only choice if you want Android.

Only choice if you want AT&T branded Android. There at least used to be an AT&T compatible Nexus 1 but I'm guessing even if it's still available thru the registered developer channel it's out of telemike's price range. Lots of the Canadian carriers' devices will work on AT&T. The T-Mobile USA Vibrant will work on 1900 MHz AT&T 3g too.

I may hold out to get T-Mo or Sprint. Sprint doesn't have much besides the Transform in my price range. The EVO and Epic are too expensive.

t-mobile has the Moto Defy and Mytouch 3G Slide which fit my budget.

Just tempting to get either the Aria or Xperia for free.

what are the monthly cost comparing Sprint and Tmobile??

do the full math... 2 yrs with carrier + phone costs.
which is cheaper in the long run??

there are ways to get around the activation fee from sprint.. depending who you purchase from.. Do you have a best buy or radio shack near you? or online stores.. amazon, wirefly..etc.. good deals..cheaper than direct from carrier!

also.. who do you or your wife work for? some major companies have great discounts with carriers plans every month..

if you dont have an empolyer that has discount....
search on this forum or xda... there are sprint employees that are willing to hook you up with a service discount every month!!!

If only the Xperia X10 had 2.1 Eclair and pinch-zoom it would be a no brainer. I've not read of any GPS or file system issues with X10. It's bascially a Free upgrade for me from Letstalk.com as compared to $79.99 for the Captivate.

If there was definite date for the Eclair update I would get the X10 for free and later on add a 16GB SD card.

Captivate. Don't try and convince yourself the x10 is ok or in the same league as the Cap. The file system lag is easily cured with voodoo. GPS fix should come with the Froyo update next month. Its worth $80 more than the x10. Screen, cpu, gpu its one sided
